April: No Final Decision On Kickoff Returner

Rookie kickoff returner Jorrick Calvin struggled on Monday night against the Redskins. He muffed the opening kickoff and fumbled another return later in the game that was fortunately recovered by the Eagles.

Calvin has shown some explosiveness at times this season. He's averaging 22.1 yards per kickoff return with a long of 41 yards. On punt returns, Calvin is averaging 10.5 yards per return and has a long of 44 yards.

However, the Eagles also have veteran specialist Ellis Hobbs, who has scored three touchdowns on kickoff returns and is averaging nearly 27 yards per return for his career.

Hobbs has missed the last two games with a hip flexor injury. Hobbs was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, but head coach Andy Reid has already said that Dimitri Patterson will start at the right cornerback position against the Giants.

Special teams coordinator Bobby April said on Thursday that if Hobbs can play there's a "very good chance" he will handle kickoff returns. However, April said that head coach Andy Reid will make the final call and Reid "hasn't totally decided on that."

April added that Jeremy Maclin and Jerome Harrison have also worked in practice at returning kickoffs.
