Asomugha Confident For Second Half

When cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha joined the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, he believed he was done with losing. In his eight years with the Raiders, not once did the four-time All-Pro experience a winning season.

Now, he finds himself on a 3-5 Eagles team that has not lived up to expectations in the first half of the season. The nine-year veteran knows that this team, unlike many of his Raider teams over the last decade, has the talent and the infrastructure to succeed.

"Me and my teammates are very confident that we can finish out the season with 10 or 11 wins," Asomugha said. "It's crazy to sit here and think that we're 3-5 with the talent we have.

"In probably seven of our first eight games, we've played great football until the very end. Our problem has just been finishing games. We've controlled a lot of games through the first three quarters, only to end up losing them. We could certainly have a few more wins if we were playing consistently through four quarters every week."

Asked what the team needs to do to turn things around, the 6-2 corner was blunt, saying simply that everyone on both sides of the ball "just needs to play better."

"The only thing that needs to change is what's on the scoreboard at the end of the game," Asomugha said. "We just need to score points and stop teams from scoring points, especially in the fourth quarter."

Asomugha is correct in his assessment. In four of the Eagles' five losses, the team has entered the fourth quarter with a lead. In those four games, they've been outscored an astonishing 46-0. On the year, the Eagles rank 32nd in the league in fourth-quarter point differential at -36. In the first three quarters, however, the Eagles are outscoring their opponents by 57 points.

The Eagles actually have the best overall point differential in the entire division, despite being three games behind the 6-2 Giants. If the Eagles can put it all together through four quarters, they'll be a force to be reckoned with in the final eight weeks of this season.
