In 2003, the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders introduced haute couture into NFL Cheerleading when they unveiled their Vera Wang uniforms during the inaugural game at Lincoln Financial Field, becoming the first squad to be outfitted by an internationally famed designer. This year, the cheerleaders debuted newly designed Vera Wang signature pieces.
The new signature pieces encapsulate the Eagles brand with the incorporation of logo motifs and more midnight green into the modern, sleek designs. The squad is dressed entirely in Vera Wang, as the designer also custom made a black sparkle sneaker for the squad to wear with their uniforms for a finishing touch to the contemporary and distinctive look.
Christina Weiss Lurie, President Eagles Youth Partnership and Eagles Social Responsibility, played an integral role in all aspects of the uniform designs. She expressed, "Vera beautifully achieved our vision for the signature pieces with a fashion forward and sporty look that represents our style. We feel the uniforms are ideal for the cutting-edge image of the cheerleaders – chic while displaying athleticism."
Vera Wang added, "It was an honor to create the uniform design that has now become synonymous with the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders. I always embrace the opportunity to work on extensions of my original creations and enjoyed designing new signature pieces for the beautiful and talented cheerleaders to wear this year."
The Eagles Cheerleaders were involved in New York Fashion Week which included appearing at the celebrity-studded GBK Styling Lounge. GBK Productions, known for their luxury gifting lounges at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Cannes Film Festival, EMMYS, and ESPYS, invited the cheerleaders to participate in photo-ops with fellow celebrities and fashion industry professionals.
