Game Recap: Eagles 31, Buccaneers 25 | Week 4

The Eagles hold on for an six-point victory to remain undefeated.

The Eagles leave Tampa Bay with a 31-25 victory over the Buccaneers to improve to 4-0. The Eagles led by as many as 21 points, but a Tampa Bay comeback made it a one possession game.

Philadelphia's defense held late, though, as Jihaad Campbell had an end zone interception to help secure the victory.

Here's how it happened:

First Quarter

4th & 5 at TB 48 (12:59)

  • BLOCKED PUNT! Cameron Latu blocks a punt and Sydney Brown returns it 35 yards for a touchdown! The Eagles blocked two field goals last week and then open Week 4 with a blocked punt. (Eagles 7 - Buccaneers 0)

1st-and-goal at TB 2 (7:12)

  • TOUCHDOWN! The Eagles extend their lead with a 2-yard flip pass to Dallas Goedert. The touchdown was set up by a 28-yard run from Jalen Hurts that put the Eagles at the Tampa Bay 2-yard line. DeVonta Smith had a key grab on 3rd-and-8 to keep the drive going as the Philadelphia offense looked smooth on its first possession. (Eagles 14 - Buccaneers 0)

4th-and-19 at PHI 24 (0:00)

  • The Buccaneers get on the board with a 42-yard field goal. The Eagles came up with a sack on 3rd-and-10 to force a field goal attempt. Philadelphia committed two 15-yard penalties on the drive that helped move Tampa Bay downfield. (Eagles 14 – Buccaneers 3)

Second Quarter

1st-and-goal at TB 5 (6:14)

  • TOUCHDOWN! Jalen Hurts flips a pass again to Dallas Goedert for a 5-yard touchdown! Hurts connected with DeVonta Smith for 20 yards on 3rd-and-6 to set up the score. The Eagles' tight ends had a big drive with Hurts delivering a perfect 22-yard throw to Goedert and finding Grant Calcaterra for 16 yards on the following play. (Eagles 21 - Buccaneers 3)

3rd-and-4 at TB 26 (5:17)

  • Moro Ojomo swats a pass at the line of scrimmage as the Philadelphia defense gets another stop. The Eagles will take over on their own 25-yard line.

4th-and-11 at TB 21 (1:01)

  • Field Goal! The Eagles add to their lead thanks to a 39-yard field goal from Jake Elliott. A.J. Brown had a clutch catch on 3rd down to extend the drive, and Saquon Barkley's impressive 15-yard catch and run led the Eagles deeper into Tampa Bay territory. (Eagles 24 – Buccaneers 3)

4th-and-4 at PHI 47 (0:04)

  • Buccaneers kicker Chase McLaughlin makes a career-high 65-yard field goal to close out the first half. The Eagles will receive the second half kickoff. (Eagles 21 – Buccaneers 6)

The Eagles are in Tampa Bay for a Sunday afternoon showdown featuring two of the three remaining undefeated teams in the NFC. Which one will stay that way after Week 4?

Third Quarter

4th-and-3 at PHI 33 (11:02)

  • FOURTH DOWN STOP! The Eagles get pressure on Baker Mayfield on 4th-and-3, and his pass is broken up by Kelee Ringo, who is making his first start of the season. The Eagles' defense continues to roll against Tampa Bay.

1st-and-10 at TB 23 (10:04)

  • The Buccaneers cut into the lead with a 77-yard touchdown grab from Emeka Egbuka on the first play of the possession. (Eagles 24 – Buccaneers 13)

2nd-and-5 at TB 22 (7:26)

  • FUMBLE RECOVERY! Jalyx Hunt forces a Bucky Irving fumble and Kelee Ringo gets the recovery! The Eagles take over in the red zone.
  • Buccaneers cornerback Jamel Dean (groin) is ruled out while edge rusher Haason Reddick (concussion) is questionable to return.

3rd-and-1 at TB 6 (3:57)

  • TOUCHDOWN! The Eagles run a fake Tush Push and Saquon Barkley goes six yards for a walk-in touchdown. The scoring drive was set up by Jihaad Campbell's forced fumble on Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving. The Eagles improve to 11-for-11 in the red zone this season. (Eagles 31 – Buccaneers 13)

2nd-and-6 at TB 28 (2:24)

  • The Buccaneers respond quickly as Bucky Irving has a 72-yard catch-and-run for the touchdown. The Eagles lead by two possessions. (Eagles 31 – Buccaneers 20)

Fourth Quarter

4th-and-12 at PHI 40 (12:20)

  • Tampa Bay makes it a one possession game with a 58-yard field goal from Chase McLaughlin. (Eagles 31 – Buccaneers 23)

1st-and-10 at PHI 11 (7:57)

  • INTERCEPTION! Jihaad Campbell forces his second turnover of the game, intercepting Baker Mayfield in the end zone. The Eagles take over with less than eight minutes remaining. (Eagles 31 – Buccaneers 23)

4th-and-10 at PHI 38 (1:02)

  • FOURTH DOWN STOP! The Eagles stop the Buccaneers and take over with less than a minute remaining. Moro Ojomo's monster sack put the Buccaneers at 3rd-and-23 on the final drive. Tampa Bay has two timeouts remaining.

4th-and-11 at PHI 34

  • BALLGAME! Punter Braden Mann runs the clock out in the back of the end zone for a safety which came with no time remaining. The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season. (Eagles 31 - Buccaneers 25)

Standouts

TE Dallas Goedert

Goedert had his best game of the season with four catches for 37 yards, including two touchdowns. Goedert was a key weapon for the Eagles in the red zone.

CB Quinyon Mitchell

Mitchell had sticky coverage throughout as he shadowed Buccaneers standout rookie Emeka Egbuka and had reps against Chris Godwin. Mitchell had a big-time pass breakups and tackles throughout the game to help the Eagles hold on.

TE Cameron Latu

Latu got the action started right away, blocking a punt on the first possession of the game. Latu shot right though the middle and the ball popped into the air, where Sydney Brown nabbed it and went 36 yards for a touchdown. Latu was signed to the 53-man roster this week, and he took no time to make an impact.

Up Next

The Eagles return to Lincoln Financial Field to face the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1 PM. The Broncos play their Week 4 game on Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.
