Around the Locker Room: 'No matter how we do it, let's get a win'

For the third straight week, the Eagles play an NFC South team and for a second consecutive week they are on the road, this time in Tampa against the Buccaneers, a 2-1 team coming off a 26-7 loss to Denver. The mood in the locker room? Terrific. Excited. Ready to get after it again against a team that ended the 2023 season in the playoffs.

Let's go Around the Locker room to get a sense of the vibe …

Dallas Goedert: Last week is last week …

After that big 10-catch, 170-yard game on Sunday in New Orleans, what is tight end Dallas Goedert thinking as Tampa Bay approaches?

"Move on. It's all focused on Tampa Bay this week and doing whatever we can to get ready to go down there and play and put together a good plan and continue trending in the right direction," Goedert said.

And that's that.

If he's called on to be a primary pass catcher on Sunday, that's great. If he has more blocking responsibilities, so be it. Goedert just wants to help.

"I set a goal of being a three-down tight end when I came into this league," he said, "be really good in the blocking game and do whatever is asked of me in the passing game. A game like last week kind of showed I was able to do that, but I've got to continue to stack them each and every week."

But 11 targets and 10 catches and all those yards. A great feeling?

"It was a ton of fun, but I was most glad that we were able to pull out the game late and win," he said. "It is no fun when you have a big game and lose. It's all about winning here and we know what we have this week. Tampa Bay's defense is really good, brings a lot of different pressures, and they one-up the personnel you have and get you out of sorts.

"I really like the plan we have going in there this week and I think we're going to play a good game."

Kenny Pickett: At the ready behind Jalen Hurts

Kenny Pickett knew the deal when he joined the Eagles: Jalen Hurts is the starting quarterback and Pickett is here to support Hurts and to play well when and if he is called upon. So, that's what he's doing.

"It's been good. I've learned a lot being here in this system from these guys and I've stayed in the routine I had when I started in Pittsburgh," Pickett said, sitting at his locker. "I've kept that routine. I'm getting mental reps and I'm staying ready. I was in this kind of situation when I came into the league with the Steelers, so you fall back on that experience, get some routes on air to stay sharp and get your timing down. Basically, you get extra work wherever you can to stay sharp and you do extra things mentally in the film room to be ready as if you are walking out as if you are the starter."

Bottom line: Pickett is on point and he is ready to play if his number is called.

"Yes, that's my job," he said. "I love the offense and what we're doing and the guys we have here, we all want the same thing. I channel my competitiveness into my preparation and getting my mind right. It could happen at any time and if it does, I have to be ready instantly."

Parris Campbell: Keeping a positive mindset

He started off fast in the spring and summer, and things were on the upswing for wide receiver Parris Campbell, but an injury set him back. Ultimately, Campbell didn't make the initial 53-man roster. But he's on the practice squad, and he has been called up each of the last two weeks to play – 15 snaps against Atlanta and 36 against New Orleans, where he contributed 2 receptions for 13 yards.

This week? Campbell, as always, is preparing for action if that's the case. If not, Campbell knows he is a better player than he was a week ago.

"Every time you get out there, you're a better player. That's the way this game works," Campbell said. "It felt great to be out there last week – getting into a huddle, hearing the call, kind of getting into a flow. I felt a lot better about myself after playing and I've kept that feeling all week.

"Getting cut, it hurt. I'm not gonna lie. But I am a man of faith and if you told me I would be in this situation after the way I felt that day, I would take it. I've been given an opportunity and I feel I'm taking advantage of it."

With starting wide receivers A.J. Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion) having missed both Wednesday's and Thursday's practices, Campbell's status is not clear.

"They've both been so supportive and that means everything," he said. "We have that kind of team. That's the culture here. Everybody wants success for each guy in here. It is a great place to be."

Brandon Graham: More playing time helps me groove

Whatever his role, Brandon Graham is delivering in his 15th season. He has played 95 snaps in three games and has been productive with his energy, pass rush, and relentlessness.

A good start to a final season.

"I'm just in the moment and staying ready to go, taking care of my body, and having energy every day," Graham said. "We're coming together on defense. Good game last week. We know we have a tough one on Sunday. Tampa Bay, they do a lot of good things – they run it well and Baker (Mayfield, quarterback) runs around, keeps plays alive, knows how to win.

"We've played them plenty of times and we know what they do. It comes down to who wants it more and who executes."

Any residue from the loss in last season's playoffs?

"Last year is over, but it sucked losing that game," Graham said. "This is a new team and a new season, so that's what we're thinking about. I just want to go down there, man, and get a win. No matter how we do it, let's get a win."
