Eagles, Cam Jurgens agree to terms on four-year extension

The Eagles on Monday announced that they have agreed to terms with center Cam Jurgens on a four-year contract extension through the 2029 season. Continuing to deliver on the team's commitment to the offensive line, the Eagles now have four linemen – Jurgens, left tackle Jordan Mailata (2028), left guard Landon Dickerson (2028), and right tackle Lane Johnson (2027) under contract for many seasons to come.

In the case of Jurgens, it was a priority for the Eagles, who in the post-Super Bowl-winning season have inked linebacker Zack Baun, running back Saquon Barkley, and Johnson to new deals.

The lesson continues to be this for the Eagles: If you perform, you are going to be around for a long time.

A second-round draft pick in 2002 (No. 51 overall), Jurgens learned the ropes in his rookie season as the Eagles advanced to Super Bowl LVII and then transitioned to the right guard position, earning the starting job there for 11 games. Jason Kelce retired after the season and Jurgens moved to his natural position of center, starting 16 games last season and earning Pro Bowl honors, becoming the youngest Eagles center to earn Pro Bowl recognition since Ken Farragut (also 25) in 1953.

"I feel like I have a lot of good guys around me and I just kept learning, getting better every game this year. It's a huge honor, so many people playing never get it," Jurgens said when he was named a Pro Bowl selection. "I'm still going to do the same thing and be the same person."

"I think he's done a phenomenal job. I mean, everybody's going to compare him to Jason (Kelce). But Cam is Cam. He's going to do his own thing. He's filled the role of playing center for the Philadelphia Eagles extremely well," Dickerson said.

Jurgens, who will be 26 when the 2025 season begins, is just hitting the prime seasons of his NFL career. He was part of a terrific offense and offensive line last season when Barkley rushed for a league-record 2,504 yards (playoffs included). The dynamic running game was almost unstoppable as the Eagles totaled the most rushing yards (3,866) in NFL history. The dual-attack offense also set a franchise record in passer rating (103.4).

A standout at Nebraska, where he began his career at tight end before adding 45 pounds as he moved to center, Jurgens was an all-Big Ten selection there before jumping to the NFL. The Eagles were ecstatic that Jurgens was available in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, envisioning Jurgens as an eventual replacement for Kelce.

The plan has worked out to perfection.

"We nailed that one," Run Game Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach Jeff Stoutland said.

"He's been great all year," quarterback Jalen Hurts said. "He had one bad snap to start the season off, and all the questioning and all the things that were thrown his way and ended up being a Pro Bowler. He's done a great job."
