The tailgating will start long before the 8:15 PM kickoff on Monday night because Eagles fans are in a celebratory mood. After starting the 2024 regular season with a win over the Green Bay Packers in Brazil, the Eagles will play their first game of the year in Lincoln Financial Field.

So, it's the real-feel home opener for the Eagles, who have called Lincoln Financial Field home since the 2003 season. There have been some memorable home openers in that time, and here we go back a step or two further to remember a couple of home openers at Veterans Stadium that are worth remembering.

Here are Eagles home openers, 10 of them, worth a look back …

1. September 6, 1992: Remembering Jerome Brown

Defensive tackle Jerome Brown died tragically in the months before the 1992 season began and the Eagles players honored him and announced, on their own, that his jersey No. 99 would be retired by the team. It was the start of a season-long tribute and an emotional day at Veterans Stadium. It was also quarterback Randall Cunningham's first game back after suffering a knee injury in the opening game of the 1991. The Eagles won this one over New Orleans, 15-13, in an ugly kind of game that left fans and players in tears thinking of No. 99.

2. September 22, 2002: 44-13 over Dallas

Dallas led 10-3 early on the strength of a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a field goal, and then the Eagles just poured … it … on against their NFC East rivals. The Eagles scored 31 straight points with a varied offense that included two Donovan McNabb touchdown passes, a McNabb scoring run, and a Brian Westbrook touchdown pass to Todd Pinkston. The Eagles kicked off their final season at the Vet in fine fashion against the hated Cowboys.

3. September 12, 2004: T.O.! T.O.! T.O.! T.O.!

In his regular-season debut with the Eagles, wide receiver Terrell Owens was caught in some traffic around Lincoln Financial Field, but once he arrived, he settled right in with 8 receptions for 68 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-17 victory over the New York Giants and by the end of the afternoon he had the fans serenading him. Donovan McNabb passed for 330 yards and 4 touchdowns and the two started out a Super Bowl season the right way.

4. September 12, 2010: The Michael Vick Era begins

Wearing the Kelly Green uniforms to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Eagles' 1960 NFL Championship team, the Eagles played the Green Bay Packers, hopeful that new starting quarterback Kevin Kolb would rise to the occasion. But Kolb suffered a concussion in the first half of the game and was replaced by Michael Vick, who led a furious late-game comeback that fell just short. Vick ran and passed the Packers dizzy (176 yards, 103 rushing yards). Although Green Bay won the game, 27-20, Vick's performance was a preview of what was to come.

5. September 16, 2012: Not pretty, but a late-game win over Baltimore

With replacement officials manning the game, the Eagles proceeded to play ugly football. They turned it over three times in the red zone in the first half alone, and suffered some injuries along the offensive line in the second half, but Vick came through late to secure the win and push the Eagles to 2-0 for the first time since the 2004 season. Vick threw for 371 yards and a touchdown and also scored on a 1-yard run late in the game. Tight end Brent Celek had 8 catches for 157 yards, and wide receiver DeSean Jackson caught 7 passes for 114 yards.

As the Eagles get ready to host the Falcons on Monday Night Football, take a look back at some of the best home openers in recent history.

6. September 11, 2016: Introducing QB Carson Wentz

Having traded veteran quarterback Sam Bradford only days earlier, the Eagles put their season in the hands of first-round draft pick Carson Wentz, a rookie from North Dakota State who the team felt would change the fortunes of the franchise. His debut came at Lincoln Financial Field on a beautiful day against the Cleveland Browns, and Wentz did not disappoint. Wentz completed 22 of 37 passes for 278 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 29-10 win over the Browns, the first of three straight wins to start the season.

7. September 24, 2017: Jake Elliott 61-yard field goal

Three plays, 19 yards. That's all it took for the Eagles to get into some kind of range to give Jake Elliott a shot. And that is all that he wanted – a shot. Elliott lined up on a blisteringly hot September afternoon in South Philadelphia and boomed it – up, up, and through the uprights and the Eagles beat the Giants, 27-24. Elliott was carried off the field and the victory ignited a nine-game winning streak for the Eagles in their most magical, Super Bowl-winning season.

8. September 6, 2018: Celebrating the Super Bowl win

The game itself, an 18-12 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, wasn't anything extraordinary, but the pregame feel and scene was history-making. Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie and Pro Football Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins conducted the ceremony of unveiling the World Championship banners at Lincoln Financial Field to the thunderous roar of a sold-out audience. Then the Eagles went out and slugged out a win on Thursday night, sending everyone home very, very happy.

9. September 8 2019: Welcome home, DeSean Jackson!

The Eagles overcame a 17-0 first-half deficit on the strength of a pair of Carson Wentz touchdown passes to DeSean Jackson, a former Eagle who had played in Washington and Tampa Bay the previous five seasons, to beat Washington 32-27. Jackson was outstanding with 8 catches for 154 yards and touchdowns of 51 and 53 yards. Wentz had a fine opener, completing 28 of 39 passes for 313 yards and 3 touchdowns.

10. September 19, 2022: Jalen Hurts dominates Vikings in prime time

Philadelphia opened its home season in rousing fashion, whipping the Vikings and quarterback Kirk Cousins, 24-7. Hurts was brilliant, throwing for 333 yards on 26-of-31 passing and he added 57 yards on the ground, accounting for three total touchdowns. Cornerback Darius Slay had a pair of interceptions and locked down wide receiver Justin Jefferson. In front of a Monday Night Football television audience, the Eagles showed they were Super Bowl contenders – which they eventually were that season.
