The NFL announced in February that the Eagles would be part of the first-ever NFL game in South America on Friday, September 6 as part of the 2024 season kickoff.
However, there was one mystery. Who would be the opponent?
Now, we know.
The Eagles will open their 2024 regular season in São Paulo, Brazil against the Green Bay Packers, the league unveiled on Wednesday morning. Fans in Brazil will be treated to a battle between two historic franchises coming off postseason appearances. The Packers enjoyed a youthful resurgence in 2023, finishing second in the NFC North with a 9-8 record and beating the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC's Wild Card Round behind first-year starter Jordan Love at quarterback.
The Eagles and the Packers last played in 2022, with Philadelphia winning 40-33 at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles and Green Bay previously squared off in a season opener back in 2010 as Philadelphia celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1960 NFL Championship Team that beat Vince Lombardi's Packers to win the title. That was the only playoff loss of Lombardi's Hall of Fame career as a coach.
The prime-time game will be streamed exclusively on Peacock. Kickoff time has yet to be determined for this first Week 1 game on a Friday since 1970.

"The Eagles organization is honored to have been selected to play in the first-ever National Football League game in South America," said Jeffrey Lurie, Philadelphia Eagles Chairman and CEO, in February when the game was announced. "With the global growth of our sport being a top priority to our league, we embrace the opportunity to grow our fanbase around the world and bring Eagles football to the 38 million sports fans in Brazil. One of the world's most culturally diverse nations, Brazil is an international melting pot, and we look forward to experiencing its warm, vibrant, and welcoming environment later this year."
The contest will be played at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil with a seating capacity of 47,252. Home to the Brazilian soccer team SC Corinthians, the stadium was an official venue for both the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.
"This landmark first international game in South America demonstrates the ongoing expansion of our global footprint," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell during Super Bowl Week. "Playing on Friday night of Week 1 is a unique way to highlight our international growth and ambitions."
This will be the Eagles' second International Series Game in the regular season. They played in London during the 2018 campaign and defeated Jacksonville, 24-18, at Wembley Stadium. The Eagles played preseason games in Mexico City in 1978, London in 1989 and '91, and Tokyo in 1993.
