Eagles award $10,000 NFL PLAY 60 grant to Anna Lane Lingelbach Elementary School
Eagles players, cheerleaders and team mascot SWOOP participated in a special assembly at Anna Lane Lingelbach Elementary School in Philadelphia on Monday and spoke to students about the importance of staying active. During the visit, Eagles players led kids in fitness activities, as part of the NFL's PLAY 60 campaign, while encouraging them to get 60 minutes of exercise a day.
"It's a blessing that Anna Lane Elementary now has the opportunity to renovate their basketball gym and to build a new rock climbing wall with this grant," said Eagles inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks. "It's little things like this that get these kids excited to go outside, be active and to just stay healthy."
On behalf of the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles and Comcast, Eagles players and Comcast VP Community Investment Robert Smith presented the school with a $10,000 NFL PLAY 60 grant for health and wellness programming or equipment.
"These are messages that these kids have heard in many different ways over the years, but [the Eagles] are their heroes; they are their role models," said Smith. "These four guys did a phenomenal job of just being very straightforward while speaking at a level that these children can understand. That says to them, 'Hey, maybe I should do that, too. Maybe it's okay. If that's what DeMeco Ryans did to get where he is, maybe I should give it a try.' I think coming to an event like this where the players were able to get the students energized and motivated really helps us deliver those messages."

The NFL PLAY 60 Super School contest selected one school in each of the 32 NFL markets and two non-NFL markets. Winning schools received a $10,000 NFL PLAY 60 grant for health and wellness programming or equipment and a visit from NFL players.
Players help the students get 60 minutes of exercise during the NFL PLAY 60 Ultimate Physical Education Class, as part of the NFL PLAY 60 youth health and wellness campaign. In addition to the grant, the NFL donates all fitness equipment used during the physical education class for students to use in the future.
To celebrate the start of the NFL season through the Back to Football campaign, schools were encouraged to participate in the NFL PLAY 60 Super School contest and submit three essays explaining how they planned to show their NFL team pride and incorporate football into their lesson plans. Schools were also asked to demonstrate their commitment to youth health and wellness by submitting essays on their school's game plan for teaching students the importance of physical education and nutrition.
