With starting free safety likely out this week with a neck sprain, the Eagles have signed safety Colt Anderson off of the Minnesota Vikings practice squad. To make room for Anderson on the active roster, running back Joique Bell was released.
Anderson originally joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Montana in 2009. He had nine tackles and one tackle for loss during the 2010 preseason. Because Anderson was signed off another team's practice squad, he must remain on the Eagles roster for at least three weeks. He will wear No. 30.
Bell was signed earlier this season off the Buffalo Bills practice squad. His departure leaves the Eagles with three running backs on the roster in LeSean McCoy, Jerome Harrison and Eldra Buckley. Wide receiver Chad Hall is also capable of playing some running back.
Rookie safety Kurt Coleman is slated to start at free safety alongside Quintin Mikell in Washington on Monday night against the Redskins.
UPDATE: DE Pannel Egboh has been released from the practice squad. There are now seven players on the practice squad. The Eagles have the flexibility to add another player.
