Veteran free agent linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, a mainstay in the middle of the Eagles defense for seven seasons, worked out for the team that gave him his start in the NFL.
A four-time Pro Bowl player, Trotter originally entered the NFL as a third-round draft pick in 1998. He led the team in tackles in 2000 and 2001, earning Pro Bowl selections following each season. He then played two seasons in Washington before returning to Philadelphia and contributing to the team's Super Bowl run in 2004. After starting that season on special teams, Trotter took over as the starting middle linebacker and earned a Pro Bowl spot following that season and again after the 2005 season.
A favorite among Eagles fans and a vocal leader, Trotter last played in Philadelphia in 2006.
Concern over Trotter's knees prompted the team to part ways with him in August 2007. Trotter spent that season in Tampa, but saw little action as a member of the Buccaneers. Trotter was not on an NFL roster in 2008. He has since spent time as a sports talk radio host on 610-WIP.
When he last left Philadelphia, Trotter insisted that he still had "gas left in his tank." Thursday was a chance to prove just how much. The team is a little thin at linebacker, especially after losing Stewart Bradley to a season-ending knee injury in training camp. Omar Gaither, who originally replaced Trotter in the middle but was then moved to the weak side, is back in the middle.
Trotter, 32, recorded 940 tackles, nine interceptions, 12.5 sacks and nine forced fumbles during his tenure with the Eagles.
Head coach Andy Reid will likely address the Trotter workout during his Friday press conference, which can be heard LIVE right here beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Eagles Live!
