The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Thursday that Wes Hopkins will serve as the team's honorary alumni captain this Sunday against the Washington Redskins. There will be a tribute to the former All-Pro safety at halftime on the Miller Lite Flight Deck. The ceremony can be seen live on PhiladelphiaEagles.com as part of the Halftime Report.
Originally a second-round draft choice of the Eagles in 1983 (35th overall), Hopkins spent his entire 10-year career in Philadelphia, recording 30 interceptions and 12 sacks. He accumulated All-Pro and Pro-Bowl honors following the 1985 season and was also named team MVP that year after registering six interceptions, one touchdown return and two sacks. Hopkins' stellar play landed him at number five on the Eagles' all-time interceptions list, including five seasons with at least five picks. He is one of just 11 players in NFL history to accrue at least 30 interceptions and 12 sacks.
A native of Birmingham, Ala., Hopkins played collegiately at Southern Methodist University. He was the Eagles Ed Block Courage Award recipient in 1988.
