On the decision to pull quarterback Rex Grossman: "Well number one—we needed a spark. John has been practicing very well the past couple of weeks and with four turnovers there we thought it was time to make a change and give John an opportunity to show us what he could do."
On if John Beck would permanently be replacing Rex Grossman: "I would never announce that right after a game. I would announce that later on in the week. We'll make a decision after looking at the film."
On if the quarterback position is open going into the week: "I said what I said. We'll make a decision Wednesday. I wouldn't say anything today…at every position. We had (left tackle) Trent Williams go down with a high ankle sprain. (Tight end) Chris Cooley fractured the index finger on his left hand and he is going to have to have that operated on. (Left guard) Kory Lichtensteiger (injured his) ACL/MCL…we're not really sure right now but he's quite sore and it doesn't look good. Those are injury situations thus far. So I have to take a look at the film in a little bit more detail and figure out what direction we're going to go in a lot of different positions. That won't occur until Wednesday."
On John Beck's play: "John's been doing well and I thought he did well today. We put him in passing situations, down by 14 points, and I thought he handled himself well."
On if he spoke with Rex after the game: "No. We don't talk (after the game). I talk to the football team, I get a chance to look at the film. I know one thing, things weren't as precise as we'd like to be on a couple different routes. We've got to get better in a lot of different areas. Anytime you lose the turnover battle the chances of winning aren't very good."
On if there was a reason quarterback Rex Grossman was forcing the football: "Bottom line is you have a good day or you don't. We'll take a look at the film and try and talk about where the mistakes were in the reads and those types of things. Right now everybody knows that if you have four picks in a game good things aren't going to happen."
On if the Eagles offense created any specific difficulties for the Redskins defense: "I thought (the Eagles offense) did a good job during the first half. I thought our defense came back in the second half and did a great job. We shut them out in the second half and gave our offense many opportunities to score. We didn't take advantage of those opportunities. We had the ball inside the 50-yard line a couple of times and we couldn't get any points. That's the difference in winning and losing."
On losing left tackle Trent Williams and left guard Kory Lichtensteiger: "It's hard to lose starters. We've talked about that before. Erik Cook hurt his calf before the game and couldn't even go through warm-ups. He gutted it out, came out there and lasted the whole game as a guy that was not supposed to play. I was pleased with him, just the way he handled himself and was able to play."
On if Trent Williams would be out for a while: "I'll tell you later on during the week. High ankle sprains usually aren't very good."
On how left guard Kory Lichtensteiger was injured: "Hopefully I can see it on film. I can't tell you for sure."
On the Redskins execution of the running game: "Anytime you have 21 plays in the first half you couldn't get anything going. They were 0-for-4 on third downs and we didn't execute the way we normally execute. Credit to them—disappointment for us."
On the delay of game penalty that pushed the Redskins out of field goal range: "It could've went either way. I wasn't even sure if I should kick the field goal at that time—I was going back and forth. It was a two-score game at that time. Should we pin them back, should we go for the field goal… It made it easy when we did have the delay of game. We had them backed up and it gave us an opportunity to win the game. Two minutes and 44 seconds (remaining) and you've got some timeouts and you've got the two minute (warning). (The Eagles) did a good job of getting two first downs running the football. I was disappointed in that—that was one of the most disappointing things there was. I felt in the second half, with our defense, we knew they were going to run at least two downs and we couldn't stop them either time."
On if he felt this was a game that had almost been lost early but the team fought their way back in: "I was pleased our defense came back and shut them out in the second half. They're a very explosive offensive football team and we played much better (in the second half). We had our opportunities in the second half to put the game away and score, especially early in that third quarter—first drive, second opportunity, third opportunity—we need to take advantage of it. When you don't take advantage of it you lose those games, especially when you don't win the turnover battle."
On if running back Tim Hightower didn't receive any carries because he's still injured: "As I told Tim before the game, if I had someone go down he was going to play, but that was the only situation he was going to play in. He's a little banged up still and we want to get him healthy. We want him to be able to play at 100 percent. That was the real reason why I kept him out."
On if quarterback Rex Grossman's turnover from the 18-yard line was the most frustrating of the game: "There were two or three situations (that were frustrating). Every one of those opportunities you get the chance to put the ball in the end zone and make it a one touchdown game. If it's a one touchdown game with two or three of those opportunities obviously the game's a lot different. Obviously we didn't get it done."
