The 2023 regular-season schedule won't be released in full until Thursday at 8 PM, but the league is releasing selected matchups here and there, and included in the early announcement is this juicy NFC East battle: The Eagles will host the New York Giants on Monday, December 25 at 4:30 PM at Lincoln Financial Field on FOX.
That's right: Christmas Day against the New York Giants in a game that most certainly will have some bearing in a division that hasn't had a repeat winner since, wait for it, the 2001-04 Eagles won in four consecutive seasons.
Philadelphia is 93-88-2 against the Giants all-time and the Eagles are 16-6 against New York in South Philadelphia, including the NFC Divisional Playoff game win on January 21, 2023, a 38-7 victory.
The Giants are looking to build on last season's playoff appearance under second-year head coach Brian Daboll, who led New York to 11 wins and its first postseason trip since the 2016 season. The Giants secured quarterback Daniel Jones to a long-term contract and placed the franchise tag on running back Saquon Barkley before selecting cornerback Deonte Banks in Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft, center John Michael Schmitz in the second round, and wide receiver Jalin Hyatt in the third round.
It's just a tease, of course, but it's a delicious appetizer to what is expected to be a highly visible national slate for the Eagles, coming off a tough loss in Super Bowl LVII. A national game on Christmas Day against the New York Giants? It's a great matchup, an impactful game, and exactly the kind of holiday spirit South Philadelphia will welcome in late December.
