Opening Comments: "On the injury front, [T] King Dunlap is getting better. He'll have some time to recuperate from lower back spasms. [DE] Brandon Graham most likely, unless there is some kind of setback, will start practicing when we get back. [DE] Trent Cole and [T] Jason Peters have made some progress and the rest and rehab will help them for the next week or two. [Offensive line coach] Howard Mudd, adding him to the injury report here, had hip replacement surgery and it went well according to the doctors. He should be back and ready to go when we get back. It was a good win, a good team win, against a good football team. Mike Shanahan has put together a good football team along with Bruce Allen. All in all, I was happy for the players and coaches, and I thought they did a very nice job of preparation and they showed a lot of emotion throughout the game. They played good, physical football, which I thought was important."
On whether Peters and Cole will practice when they get back: "I think they have a chance to, yeah. We'll just see how it goes. They made good strides here. The thing I've done with the players is we met today and went over the tape, and I have them out of here until next Monday. The injured guys will remain up here and continue to rehab. We'll just take it day by day here with those guys and see how they do."
On Graham returning to practice: "He's worked so hard, and you can't help but be pulling for him. He spent so much time rehabbing and getting out there running around and doing the things that he does coming off tough surgery. We'll see how he does."
On how much he wants his team to think about football going into the bye week: "I want them to get away, and you can't help it. You're in the season and there are games going on around you. You're not going to forget about that, and I'm not even sure you can do that in the offseason. I want them to get away and take a deep breath, and get their bodies and minds back where they're able to relax. Then, get them back here and get them to work again. I think the bye comes at a good time. It's close enough to the middle of the season where I think it's a good thing."
On when a decision will come on Graham's activation from PUP: "We'll see this next week, and you have a three-week period there where you make the decision."
On whether he allows himself to get away during the bye week: "I was probably speaking for myself when I said the players, too, and the coaches. We're going to try and step away for at least a couple days. I think your mind is always churning on things, I find that with myself at least."
On whether the lockout makes it difficult for everyone to take time off: "No, it doesn't. Sometimes you have to take a step back to take a step forward. I think you guys will see it and feel it. You'll take some time and you won't have those hand cramps and stuff."
On the changes and challenges concerning the offensive line: "We've had some injuries but I think the mindset of the team is that with the guys that are hurt, the next guys step in and we really don't look back. That's the mindset of the group, and that's a tribute to [general manager] Howie [Roseman] and the job that he's done with the personnel. It's a tribute to the players and coaches as to how they approach it. Here [T] Winston [Justice] has an opportunity to play, and he steps in and does a nice job. Todd Herremans goes over and plays left tackle and does a nice job. With our defensive line, [d-line coach Jim] Wash[burn] and [defensive coordinator] Juan [Castillo] have done a nice job moving people around and doing different things. That's a tribute to him being a veteran in this league and having trust in his guys. Also, with the secondary moving things around there."
On whether QB Michael Vick was checked for a concussion on the sidelines: "Yeah, he was. He came off saying that, their #59 (London Fletcher) is a smart guy. He tried to bring a little attention to it, and I love the way he plays, he tried bring attention to things. Mike was trying to pull away from him and he made sure he held on to him and tried to get him out of there. Mike was okay, and right when he came to the sideline he said he was fine."
On whether Fletcher made more out of it than what the situation actually was: "Yeah, I think so. Like I said, he's pretty smart."
On what worked to make the run defense more effective: "Juan and Wash worked some things out up front, and I thought that the linebackers played well. I thought we tackled better as a unit. Wash and Juan gave them some different looks up front, and that was pretty productive there."
On what the win meant for Castillo personally and whether he felt relieved: "I think everybody was. Nobody works harder than Juan, and there's not a better football guy in our building than Juan Castillo. He knows the game in and out. He is proud of those guys most of all, and he's very close with the players and they respect him for that and for his abilities."
On why he went for it on fourth-down: "Listen, we had a little momentum going there and I wanted to just continue on. We needed points, and you get, on average, three series in a quarter. We go interception, interception, and then, I'm going, 'Let's get it going and knock this thing out, let's get a touchdown. I want a touchdown now.' It had nothing to do with the lead or having trust in the kicker, he was bombing them there from the 35 in pregame so I wasn't worried about that. I wanted to get a touchdown in that second half, especially coming off the two negatives."
On whether safeties Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman will start now going forward: "With Kurt Coleman, that's a career day right there. That's a very nice job. That doesn't happen very often. I'm proud of him for rebounding, and he sat back and played strong. It takes a special person to be able to do that. With Nate, he had one and was definitely in a position to make another one and even a third one. Listen, they're young guys that are improving. As long as they keep working hard and have the right mindset, that's a good thing. They really focus in on the game plan. The one interception he had was a special one, when he went up and over. Pretty nice play right there."
On what type of progress S Jaiquawn Jarrett is making:"You saw that we dressed him and he got to work on special teams. Sometimes what that does is that it allows him to get caught up with the speed of the game. Gameday is a little different than practice. He missed some time in training camp that hurt there a bit. So, we're just getting him caught up and getting him going. He's a great kid, smart, hard worker. We'll just see how he does. He makes improvements every week."
On whether gameday strategy revolves around K Alex Henery's range: "No, I feel good that he can do that [make long field goals]. He's had two great weeks in practice, and I'm not sure if he's missed one the past few weeks of practice. I've got trust in him and that's not the issue. We wanted to get a touchdown, that's all. We had been moving the ball pretty well and we needed a break. We still had a pretty good play in hand that I was very confident with. I had a pretty good idea what they were going to do, and we just wanted to get it.
On whether defensive line coach Jim Washburn giving different looks included not using the wide nine formation as much: "Yeah, he mixed that up, and listen, my hat's off to both he and Juan for working that out. That was a good deal. As much as you can give different looks, I think that's good against certain teams."
On whether he means scheme-wise or a disagreement when he says 'working it out': "Just doing it. There was no disagreement, just doing it."
On whether he had the defensive line ease up on the attack at any point: "No, not at all. Even when they were at the six, it was penetrating. None of that changed, we just moved the location against certain looks."
On his thoughts on the tackle CB Asante Samuel was shaken up on: "Well, that's a big man, so I'd just tell him maybe get that target a little lower, you know, if you can. That's a big kid, and Asante isn't a real big kid."
On whether that was a form tackle: "You've got to move your hat out of the way. The kid tried to come down on him, you've just got to get your head out of the way."
On whether he's had any conversations with any teams with the trading deadline approaching: "I'll tell you, everybody's calling everybody right now. That's what takes place. So to tell you that we haven't talked to anybody, I can't tell you that. People, that's what they're doing now, and they've been doing here for a little bit. You know, nothing's taking place."
On whether he would be reluctant to bring in a new player who might play a prominent role with so many new players already: "We'd just have to evaluate who it is and what system they're coming from. There are things that you look at there. I like the guys we have, but at the same time, we're always looking to get better."
On what roster move will be made if Graham is activated from the PUP list: "If that's the route we go. We've got an abundance at a couple different positions so we're not forcing any one position to do anything. People ask those types of questions, exactly what you asked, so you evaluate what's going to benefit the Philadelphia Eagles the most when you do these deals."
On whether there are any ways to use Graham uniquely: "Listen, he's coming off major surgery, so you want to bring him back in and let him get back into football here, and that normally takes a little bit of time. You have to be realistic about it and then go from there. I can tell you, his last play was his best play. It was a phenomenal move on his last play when he hurt his knee. So we're looking for him just to get back in the swing and get in that groove of playing football. He hasn't had contact with anybody yet, you can't do that when you're on the PUP list."
On whether he would be surprised if the trade deadline passed and the Eagles didn't make any moves: "I wouldn't be surprised either way."
On the 'sign guy' returning saying 'thank you, and you're welcome': "[jokingly] I appreciate that."
On G Evan Mathis and how he is fitting into the offensive line: "Evan's done a nice job. He had a nice game yesterday. He's a good athlete, very intelligent, loves to play the game. This style of offense, I think, fits the way he plays. Very athletic for a big man."
On whether T Winston Justice's play yesterday changes the way he thinks about the offensive line at all: "We'll just see. Those are all things I'll look at here in the next few days. If we get Jason [Peters] back, and so on, we'll add a couple guys to the mix. I was happy, though, for Winston, being able to get back out there, playing the way he did."
On how Justice's knee is: "It's a little tender. His whole body's a little tender."
On how Justice did transitioning from Castillo's offensive line style to Mudd's: "Well really, it fits his style. Winston is another guy that's a great athlete, very quick, and the quick sets I think fit what he does. I said this before, but it was very similar to what Juan did with the three-step-drop, is kind of what Howard does with all the drops, and so Winston was very good at that."
On how the players going to bat for him makes him feel and how he has kept the team together: "I've got great coaches and great players, I mean, that's the bottom line. Guys that like to play football, like to coach football. I appreciate all of them, I told you that before, I appreciate the way they went about business and somewhere along the line the ball will start bouncing your way as long as you're working hard and attacking the issues that you need to get better at."
On whether he is considering moving G/T Todd Herremans back to left guard if both Peters and Justice are healthy: "We'll see, I'm going to go through all that, and just look at all that, but I'm glad I have the flexibility to at least be able to look at it."
On whether he has any explanation for why the balls seemed to bounce his way this week: "Well, after [TE Brent] Celek's catch I felt pretty good."
On the day Celek had receiving and blocking: "He did both well. There were a couple, he had the one that went over 59's head there and went through his arms, I think that might have been brushed there a little bit. Then the naked play was a little bit of a low throw, but I thought he did good at both things."
On Maclin and McCoy's progress: "I think McCoy, there are not a lot of backs playing as well as he is right now. You also take into consideration his value as a blocker and as a receiver, you see how good of a runner he is when he has the ball in his hand. Maclin, I think he's just getting back into the swing of things, I think, endurance-wise and so on. I think he's just catching up from missing the training camp. But I think he's playing very good football, and Michael has a lot of trust in him."
