Health Issues For Both Teams

Both the Eagles and Chargers have some question marks heading into Friday's practice.

For the Eagles, starting left tackle Jason Peters has yet to practice this week because of an ankle sprain. The 6-foot-4 340-pound lineman re-injured his ankle against the Cowboys last week.

Running back Brian Westbrook practiced Thursday even though the team worked out indoors on the astroturf for a second straight day. The team is being cautious with Westbrook after he developed some swelling in his ankle last week.

Westbrook has missed the Eagles' last two games after suffering a concussion in the Oct. 26 win over Washington. Barring a setback, he figures to be back on the field Sunday. Westbrook boasts a 4.8-yard average per rushing attempt this season, with 197 yards on 41 carries. As a receiver, he is averaging 7.6 yards on 17 receptions.

Elsewhere on the injury front, linebacker Akeem Jordan and safety Quintin Demps sat out practice for a second straight day. Demps has an ankle injury, while Jordan hyperextended his knee while covering a kickoff late in Sunday's loss to Dallas. If healthy, Demps is expected to handle kick returns on Sunday. Jordan's injury, meanwhile, will prompt defensive coordinator Sean McDermott to tweak his personnel, including moving Chris Gocong to the middle and Will Witherspoon to the weak side. Rookie Moise Fokou, as he did last week, would remain on the strong side. Fokou was back at practice Thursday after missing Wednesday due to an illness.

Fullback Leonard Weaver (ankle) practiced fully Thursday after sitting out Wednesday. Defensive tackle Mike Patterson (toe) practiced fully on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday.

San Diego, meanwhile, had running back LaDainian Tomlinson and tight end Antonio Gates back on the field Thursday. Both playmakers participated fully in the workout after sitting out Wednesday. Tomlinson has a hip bruise and Gates a sore foot.

Pro Bowl center Nick Hardwick will likely miss this week's game as he looks to return from ankle surgery. Hardwick did limited work on Wednesday and sat out on Thursday. Scott Mruczkowski has been solid in relief of Hardwick.

On defense, Chargers' outside linebackers Shaun Phillips and Shawne Merriman didn't practice on Thursday. For Phillips, who leads the Chargers with five sacks, it marked the second straight day he missed practice because of an ankle injury. Merriman rolled his foot last week, but practiced fully on Wednesday.

At inside linebacker, the Chargers could get a boost with the expected return of Kevin Burnett, who has been out three weeks with a knee injury.
