Opening remarks: "The last ballgame [was] a terrific win. We beat a team that was 8-0 at home last year. [I was] disappointed with several things that we did on offense. [I was] pleased with a couple things, we did a couple things really well, so we've got to shore some things up. We'll open it up to questions."
On what he was disappointed with: "We all saw the game. We jumped offside, we were dropping the ball, these types of things during the pre-snap situation. We pride ourselves on being one of the best, I believe we were second in the league last year and it just stymies some of your drives. Occasionally you'll overcome it, but it really, really influenced the offensive production there."
On QB Kevin Kolb's strengths: "He's got several strengths. He's got all of the intangibles and he's well versed. I would expect him to play at a very high level. It's very difficult to get a good evaluation on a man in one game. This will be his first league start, however I expect him to play very well. There may be some ups and downs during the game, but he's very strong mentally. He's a tough guy physically, so I think he'll make it through those dips and make it through the game and then we'll see. We'll see how well he does.
"Now, it's his first start so everybody else on the offensive team has to pick their level of play up. As long as everybody plays at a high level, it gives your quarterback that is starting for the first time an opportunity for success."
On whether it is important that Kolb plays the entire game:"If Donovan can't go, and Donovan is still working very hard. Donovan is doing everything in his power to make it to this game. You know Donovan - he's played with a broken ankle, a broken sternum and all these things. Donovan is a very tough man. Kevin is our quarterback if he's not ready to go. It's that simple."
On how much Kolb will benefit from having a week of practice with the first unit: "It helps everybody having that week of practice, there is no question about it. It helps some people more than others but we'll see."
On how hard it is to juggle the egos of three Pro Bowl quarterbacks and a second round pick like Kolb: "I haven't even thought about it. It's a non-issue. Really, it's a non-issue. Listen, on offense we have no egos. We don't care who gets the credit, who's getting the ball, or if we are running or passing. We are going to do everything that we can do to win the next ball game and in this case it's the Saints coming in here, the home opener, we're going to do. The Eagles are out and that's just the way we approach the game."
On whether it is important for Kolb to get all the snaps even if it's a close game and things aren't going that well: "If Kevin starts the game, then he's our quarterback. It's that simple. I don't know if I can be any more clear. I have great confidence in Kevin."
On whether he has to tell Kolb that it's his game so he doesn't have to worry about getting pulled: "I haven't talked to him specifically about that. I've talked to him about many other things but he understands that. If he's the guy, he's our quarterback."
On whether Kolb is confident: "Yes, I'm sure many of you have met him. He doesn't lack for any confidence and that's a good thing. That's a good thing because – I'm not saying he's cocky but if you get a player that's even on the cocky side because you are going to go through some ups and downs, it's a good thing to have."
On Winston Justice and what the depth chart looks like at tackle: "[To answer] the first part of the question, he played well. He had a couple of plays there that we have to clean up. I put him in a bad spot that one play. I took a little calculated risk. I shouldn't have done that at that point in the game probably, but you do have to take some calculated risks. I probably should have pulled that one. [Julius Peppers] was out of the game then he came back in.
"I still had time to do that, but in any case – I'm talking to myself a little bit there – but in any case [to answer] the second part of the question, [T] King [Dunlap] will be the swingman at both left [tackle] and right [tackle]. As you know, we'll try to get the best five linemen on the field if anything were to occur there up front."
On whether there are any circumstances that would lead to [G/T] Stacy Andrews moving from guard to tackle:"That could be a possibility. Yes. That could be a possibility in certain a scenario."
On how the offensive line operated with so many players making their first start for the Eagles: "It was a strange game with the offensive unit. It was really strange. We did have a lot of new players, so we were all excited about the thing and then all of a sudden, I believe it was our eleventh play, we scored and it's 24-7 and we've run 11 plays and then the game is basically over. Then we have our number two quarterback in, so you have number 90 [Julius Peppers] that you have to take care of and you're trying to get the game over.
"You're trying to get the run game, continue with that a little bit. Then you're trying to get Kevin just a little bit of [work] and you just cant do them all in that type of a game, so I am little disappointed with that part of it. The fellows that were new played pretty well however we talked about it before, I was disappointed in a couple of things and our pre-snap situation was not good. Again, we pride ourselves on that part of the game."
On how Michael Vick is progressing towards the third game of the season when he will become eligible: "That's a good one because [with] Mike, as you know, there has been a systematic process here with Mike that's been well planned out. [Quarterbacks coach] James Urban and [offensive quality control coach] Doug Peterson have been heading that thing up. He's been working diligently both with our strength and conditioning coaches and after practice specifically at the quarterback spot, plus some other situational things, as well as the conditioning after practice. That will continue and step up.
"It's already stepped up just a little bit and then he does the service team. He and [QB] Jeff [Garcia] are splitting that at the quarterback spot. He'll do that this week. One of the goals was to get him in playing-football condition and I think we are real close to that and then the other goal was to get him pretty sharp at the quarterback spot. If you have those two things, then he is able to do many different things for us once he becomes eligible."
On how important it is to let Kolb know that he doesn't have to try to do everything and he can rely on the other players on offense to take on some of the load:"I have talked to him about that. Virtually every game, with any quarterback, you go through that just a little bit. He's had some experience. It's a good thing - the first two years he threw more passes than anybody else in the league in the preseason, so he has a little bit of experience in preseason games. He's got just a little bit of regular season game [experience], so the experience is a good thing there for him as well."
On the way Kolb has responded to his play last season in the Baltimore game: "Going back to the Baltimore game, he did some really good things in that game against one of the very best defenses in the league at that time. We did move the football up and down the field several times and he made a couple of critical mistakes. Really there were three real bad plays, two critical ones and so he cleaned those critical ones up and now you have a chance to win the game.
"Sometimes to have great success you have to have many failures and sometimes it's sort of horrific type failures and if you are strong enough mentally, and sometimes you have to be strong enough physically too, but if you are strong enough mentally and you get through that then you end up having some pretty good success. You see that. In my experience the quarterbacks make it through that and sometimes they're even better off because they've made some of those mistakes and it just won't happen again."
On whether he looks for ways to get the ball into WR DeSean Jackson's hands: "Yeah, that's right. We didn't do a very good job of that last week. Although, we were out of the normal plan there very, very quickly in that game, in fact he was out of that game pretty quick. That's fair to say. DeSean is an exciting, dynamic, type player."
On how many snaps rookie WR Jeremy Maclin got: "I couldn't tell you exactly how many [snaps] he got."
On whether it seemed like he was out there a lot:"Yeah he got some plays. That hopefully – now every game will be different, but hopefully as we go over a big space of time that will keep picking up just a little bit for him."
