The weather was beautiful on the final day of full contact practice at the Shrine Game. It meant players had one last chance to impress scouts, most of whom headed home Wednesday night. So who took advantage of their final opportunity? Here are the eight players that stood out on the last day of full pads practice.
Alex Lewis/T/Nebraska: If Graham Glasgow of Michigan was the top performer on the offensive line this week, then Alex Lewis wasn't far behind. Lewis did a terrific job at left tackle from the get-go and controlled just about everyone he faced. A tall lineman at 6-6, Lewis blocks with terrific knee bend and pad level, squaring into defenders to out-position them from the action. He looks a bit awkward at times but many scouts at the Shrine Game believe Lewis is NFL ready.
Chris Brown/WR/Notre Dame: Without a doubt Brown was the top receiver for the East squad Wednesday morning. He ran great routes throughout practice, consistently separated from defensive backs and caught everything thrown in his direction. Brown fought defenders for the reception then snatched the ball cleanly from the air. He also had a nice long gain on a reverse and showed plenty of speed in the open field.
Hunter Sharp/WR/Utah State: After a disappointing senior season, Sharp has infact looked sharp the past two practices. He shows the best vertical speed on any receiver in attendance, has caught the ball well and runs precise, crisp routes. Sharp also looked effective returning kicks in special teams drills, something to watch for during the game.
Parker Ehinger/OL/Cincinnati: Ehinger is another player who failed to live up to expectations during his senior campaign but is making up for lost time at the Shrine. He doesn't show the greatest athleticism on the field, but rather sound fundamentals and the ability to out-position defenders from the action.
Devon Johnson/FB/Marshall: Johnson impressed in every manner on Wednesday. He proved himself to be a devastating blocker at the line of scrimmage as well as on the second level and regularly annihilated opponents. Johnson also showed a lot of versatility and made several nice receptions out of the backfield.
Anthony Brown/CB/Purdue: Brown has been the only corner the past three days that's been able to stop or slow down receiver Tajae Sharp. He never got beat on Wednesday, kept the action in front of him all day and made several impressive plays. On one snap he made a terrific move to the ball, breaking up the pass and almost came away with the interception. His play today will not go unnoticed.
De'Vondre Campbell/OLB/Minnesota: Campbell flashed ability during the initial two practices then put it all together on Wednesday. Tall, fluid and very athletic, Campbell made plays up the field besides cutting off the corners from ball carriers. The depth he gets on pass drops and the amount of area he covers was also very impressive.
Daniel Lasco/RB/California: Lasco is yet another ball carrier who impressed scouts attending Shrine practice. He found his way through the smallest of holes in the defense, showed a great burst through the lane as well as the ability to create yardage. Lasco consistently strung several moves together to weave through the traffic picked up positive yardage on almost every carry.
