RB Joe McKnight, Southern Cal | |||||
Pos. Rank: 8 | Grade: 3rd Round | Height: 5-10 1/2 | Weight: 198 | 40: 4.43 | Year: 3-Jr. |
The Good: Elusive ball-carrier with the versatility to be used in a variety of roles. Will pick and choose his way on the inside, finds the cutback lanes and darts through the small creases of the defense. Sets defenders up, very slippery and makes several opponents miss over the course of a single run. Loses no momentum cutting back against the grain, keeps his feet moving and works runs on the inside. Patient, follows blocks everywhere on the field and displays the ability to create his own yardage. Runs with outstanding balance, body control, and quickness. Solid pass catcher and extends his hands to make the reception away from his frame.
The Bad: Loses focus, concentration, and must improve his ball security. Needs to pick up the intensity as a blocker. Lacks the classic size wanted in a featured back.
The Verdict: McKnight has been very productive in a variety of roles at USC the past three seasons. He has the potential to be productive in the NFL, yet he is more likely to do so as a situational skill player who is lined up in the backfield as a slot receiver and used as part of the return game.
