Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post reported that Smith is looking to net around $8 million per year on his contract. Smith was considered a candidate for the franchise tag, but Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reported that the Dolphins will not tag Smith.
A second-round selection of the Dolphins in 2009, Smith is 6-2, 215 pounds and has five interceptions in his four-year career. He has only missed one game during his time in South Beach having started 56 of his 63 contests.
The Eagles' cornerback situation is fluid entering this offseason. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is scheduled to become a free agent on March 12. Reports indicate that the Eagles will not use the franchise tag on Rodgers-Cromartie. There are also reports that the Eagles met with Nnamdi Asomugha's agent in Indianapolis to discuss a contract restructure.
