Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Friday evening that Chip Kelly is "close to a deal to become the Browns coach," per a source close to the situation.
The Oregon head coach led the Ducks to a Fiesta Bowl win on Thursday night and told reporters that he was open to listening to NFL offers, but wanted to make a decision one way or the other quickly.
In four seasons at Oregon, Kelly went 46-7 and led the Ducks to a BCS Bowl game each season, including one appearance in the National Championship. Kelly was close to joining Tampa Bay last year. Kelly is an innovative offensive mind and NFL people want to see whether his up-tempo offense will work at the pro level. Kelly has no previous experience in the NFL.
