Super Bowl-winning head coach Jon Gruden has expressed interest in the Eagles' head coaching position, according to Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News.
Domowitch reports that Gruden reached out to Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie through an intermediary. Gruden was the Eagles' offensive coordinator from 1995-97. In 1998, Gruden was named the head coach of Oakland and guided the Raiders to the AFC Championship Game.
Gruden was traded to Tampa Bay in 2002 for a pair of first-round picks, a pair of second-round picks and $8 million, but brought the Buccaneers their first Super Bowl title that season with a win over his former team.
In May 2009, Gruden joined the broadcast booth for ESPN's Monday Night Football and has been there ever since.
Shortly after Domowitch's report, FOX29's Howard Eskin quoted a text message from Gruden that read, "I'm not interested" in the Eagles' job.
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora tweeted that the Gruden story is "ridiculous," adding that it's "not happening and not discussed."
