S Eric Berry, Tennessee | |||||
Pos. Rank: 1 | Grade: 1st Round | Height: 5-11 1/2 | Weight: 211 | 40: 4.45 | Year: 3-Jr. |
The Good: Gifted defensive back with a complete game. Physical, works to get involved in the action, and a hard hitter. Plays with a great degree of suddenness and flashes on the scene. Terrific sideline-to-sideline range and quick getting to the flanks to help cornerbacks in coverage. Forceful up the field on the blitz and sacrifices his body to make plays. Effectively lines up over the slot receiver and displays solid ball skills. Shows a burst to the ball and quick to close. Effectively reads and diagnoses the action. Displays great range and covers a lot of area on the field.
The Bad: Inefficient and does not always take correct angles to the action.
The Verdict: Berry made an impact the moment he stepped on the field at Tennessee and is considered a high-character player who does the little things well. He offers a tremendous amount of upside at the next level, and he has a complete game, which will be effective in a variety of systems. Berry should quickly see starting action in the NFL and produce as a rookie.
