Cornerback Asante Samuel will not play in the Eagles' regular season finale Sunday against the Washington Redskins because of a hamstring injury, head coach Andy Reid said Friday. Samuel is listed as out on the official injury report and will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by Pro Bowler Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
Newly named Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy, meanwhile, is listed as questionable and is likely to play after practicing the last two days despite an ankle injury. The third-year running back currently trails Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew by 124 yards in the race for the league rushing title, and would need 204 yards to set the Eagles' all-time rushing record.
"Yeah, it's on my mind," McCoy said of the milestones. "Hopefully I can get it. A lot of things have to go right for me to get it, but I'm going to go out and play my heart out. I'm sure my linemen are going to do the same thing. But the main thing is winning and kind of go out on a good note. And it would just be even sweeter to get the record though.
"It would mean a lot just with how the season's went. You know, it would show the type of teammates I have that week-in and week-out helped me out to get it. And sometimes the linemen, they really want to get it."
Reid said that he won't use Sunday's game as a scouting opportunity for young players who haven't had a chance to play yet. Rather, the Eagles will play their starters and give every effort they can to beat the division-rival Redskins and finish 5-1 within the division.
"The starters are going to play," Reid said. "They've prepared themselves to do that and they want to play."
