The focus for the Eagles is taking another step closer to the ultimate prize when they host the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game this Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. It should be noted that on Thursday, the Associated Press announced the finalists for the NFL's end-of-season awards and several Eagles were selected. The awards are based solely on regular-season performance.

Why were these Eagles honored?

Saquon Barkley

The NFL's 2024 rushing champion, Barkley gained a franchise single-season record 2,005 yards. Barkley is just the ninth player in NFL history to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a single season. He accomplished the feat despite resting in the final game of the regular season.

Barkley set the team record with 11 games in the regular season with 100 or more rushing yards, including a franchise-record 255 in the November 24 win at Los Angeles.

SA2K was at his best in the second half of games with 1,245 rushing yards this season, the most by any player in a single season since at least 1991.

With 13 rushing touchdowns, Barkley is the only player in NFL history with 2,000 yards, 13 touchdowns, and a 5.8 yards per carry average. That YPC was the second best of any player ever with at least 345 carries in a season.

Barkley accounted for 34.8 percent of the Eagles' yards from scrimmage this season, the highest percentage of any player in the league and only one above 30 percent.

He finished tied for first in explosive runs (10+ yards) with 46 and had at least one in each of the 16 games he played in this season. Four of his touchdown runs went for at least 60 yards (including two in the aforementioned Rams game), tying the single-season NFL record.

Four times this season, Barkley was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Zack Baun

First-team All-Pro in his first season starting as an off-ball linebacker.

Baun was Pro Football Focus' top-graded linebacker in the league.

In addition to a career-high 150 tackles, Baun tied for second in the league with five forced fumbles.

Baun also posted 3.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 19 QB hits and pressures, four pass deflections, and an interception.

Cooper DeJean

DeJean finished with 50 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, six pass deflections, three fumble recoveries, three QB hits and pressures, and a half-sack.

Since the Week 5 bye (DeJean took over as the nickel cornerback in Week 6 against the Browns), the Eagles allowed just 15.9 points per game and 251.5 total yards per game. They were the only team to surrender fewer than 19 points per game or fewer than 300 yards per game in that span.

He played fewer than 70 percent of the defensive snaps just once since the bye.

Vic Fangio

In his first season as defensive coordinator, the Eagles were first in yards allowed, first against the pass, first in first downs allowed, first in three-and-out percentage, second in points allowed, third on third downs, and tied for fifth in the red zone. A year ago, the Eagles were 26th in total yards, 31st against the pass, 31st on third downs, and 30th in points allowed.

Quinyon Mitchell

Receivers disappeared when visiting Quinyonamo Bay this season as he ranked third among all NFL cornerbacks with 16 forced incompletions and third in yards allowed per coverage snap.

A starter since Week 1, Mitchell finished with 46 tackles and 12 pass deflections, playing 91 percent of the snaps this season.

The winners will be announced at NFL Honors on Thursday, February 6 in New Orleans, the site of Super Bowl LIX. Hopefully, the Eagles will be busy preparing for the final game of the 2024 season.
