Spadaro: Eagles, Howie Roseman want to 'keep this window open for as long as possible'

Everything is on the table, Eagles Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman said on Tuesday in Indianapolis at the NFL Scouting Combine. The goal, Roseman said, is to "keep this window open for as long as possible," by "doing everything we can."

How to do that at a time when the Eagles have much of their roster under contract for multiple seasons and yet have some difficult decisions on key players who are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents in three weeks?

"We have to get creative," Roseman said, "to make sure that we're keeping as many of our good players as we can. I sat up here last year and I said that's going to include playing young players and I think that's going to be a huge part of what we are going forward because we're fortunate enough to have a lot of good players who are making a lot of money."

And there you have it.

That is the goal for Roseman, for the Eagles, as the 2025 NFL season unofficially kicks off at the NFL Scouting Combine. The 2025 League Year begins on March 12 at 4 PM (teams can start negotiating contracts with certified agents of players scheduled to be unrestricted free agents on March 10) and so, yes, the hard work is long underway.

"One thing that I can promise our fans is that there will not be a player that is available that we won't study, that we won't look at and see if it can help the team," said Roseman, who said the team is on schedule in terms of its preparation for free agency and the NFL Draft and the entire offseason even with the short window between winning Super Bowl LIX and decisions for 2025 being made. "Sometimes those opportunities work and you're able to do that, and sometimes they don't.

"We have a vision of how the team is going to look, what's really important for us to continue playing at a really high level and I think it's my job every year to make sure that we have that as a starting point, or a base, when we start the offseason. After that, it allows you to get creative. If you don't really have the pillars of your football team, if you don't have those, it doesn't matter how creative you are and it's going to be hard to win."

Roseman emphasized the team's philosophy – "it's really an unhealthy obsession, to be honest with you," he said – to continually add to the offensive and defensive lines, and that will always be top of mind for the roster-building process moving forward.

Most importantly, the Eagles are on schedule.

They have most of their player interviews lined up for the post-Combine period when, as Roseman explained, they can get to know the draft prospects in greater detail. They have thought through this thoroughly and have been planning for 2025 as they also focused on winning Super Bowl LIX.

Everything has worked out, to date, according to plan. Of course, that doesn't happen often and that is why the Eagles have multiple backup plans. With two Super Bowl victories and three Super Bowl appearances in the last eight seasons, the team is clearly doing a lot of things right.

"We are looking for players wherever they are," Roseman said. "That is what we are here for and that is the goal – to continue to build the roster and improve this football team."

Without the fans, none of this season would be possible. Thank you, the fans, for the endless support, loyalty, passion, and love for the Philadelphia Eagles this season and every season.
