Special Teams Coordinator Bobby April

On how the unit will proceed without S Colt Anderson: "Obviously, he's brought a lot of production. From the day he came here, he was our most productive guy and sort of has been almost every game. When he's not in making the play, he sets the dynamic for other people to make it. He's a really valuable guy that we don't have. Not to diminish what he does, we'll rally and have to overcome that. I've said that many times, that the job they do, they're on top of every player in the league. They immediately brought me three guys, I gave them my opinion, and of course it wasn't my decision, but they picked up Tom Nelson to replace him. I think Tom is going to do a really good job, but it's not just him, it's on everybody to elevate their game to a higher degree."

On what stood out about S Tom Nelson: "He's fast, tough. We talked about Colt last time I was up here and he could've played well for 32 teams and he was playing for none of them when we picked him up. There are guys out there who have really good talent to make plays, and sometimes the timing just doesn't work out. So he's a really good player from what I saw on film. Cincinnati had him and for whatever reason wasn't on their team, but I thought he was really good. I didn't know that much about him until they brought him to me, but I was impressed. I was impressed with a guy that's hungry, tough, fast. I expect to see real big things out of him. I think he's going to have a really good game on Sunday."

On whether he has stepped right into Anderson's role: "Yeah, we put him in every spot that Colt was playing. I think he's going to have a heck of a game because he's determined, skilled. Those are pretty good ingredients for a football player."

On Jaiquawn Jarrett's role on special teams: "We've used him pretty much on the edge of things on the kickoff coverage. Sometimes, he does a really good job because he's fulfilling the responsibility. I think that's the case with Jaiquawn, we've had him playing safety and the on edge position, and he's really got to compress and so forth, and he's played on the two return teams. He hasn't been on the punt team. When we started the season, I had him playing the fullback position or the personal protector, the guy who generally makes the signal calls. Kurt Coleman plays that position for us, and Kurt's probably as good as you can possibly get at handling the deal and really being aware of what the calls are. We talked about that when we threw that pass out there against Chicago. The second that referee cleared, boom, that thing was out. He has a really good awareness of that stuff. He's been playing behind Kurt in there and he doesn't have the handle or the experience that Kurt has in there. He's going and he's moving, but that's why you don't see him on punt coverage. He just happens to be behind a really good player."

On Akeem Jordan's role on special teams after starting at SAM linebacker: "Akeem is still on a bunch of teams. He's on three units, three of the four. He's still playing a lot. Of course we lost Moise [Fokou], and he was a guy that was very similar to Akeem and the type of positions that he would play. We've kept Akeem on three of the four."

On who will take the place of Fokou: "We have a couple of guys. Casey Matthews has spent time on the punt team. We've used [Jamar] Chaney this week. So we've got those body types. Owen Schmitt plays in there and Clay Harbor plays in there. We've got enough of that body type and that position, bulk, size, and strength to play where we need to play. You do this with not only what they bring to the table but you use their leadership and enthusiastic level that they bring to the play as well. Certain guys will wise up and will meet that call for sure."

On CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie possibly returning kicks since he could be back healthy: "Yeah, that's usually [head] coach's [Andy Reid] call, but I like him back there. It was unfortunate he got hurt on that play because it's now like he's going to get hurt every time he returns a kick. If he gets hurt playing corner, you don't think that he can't play there anymore because he gets hurt playing there. You have to paddle out a little bit. It's coach's call, but I like him because he's fast and could be faster than anyone else playing on the field on any Sunday. I like the way he was running with the ball. We practiced him about 9-10 weeks back there and trying to improve him, and we finally used him. I'd like to keep using him, and coach will make that call. Either way, we're good and we have good players back there."

On LB Greg Lloyd's role on special teams: "Greg Lloyd is practicing on everything. I don't know exactly how the dress list is going to fall, but he's ready. He hadn't gotten a lot of experience, and he was hurt some of camp, and he ended up on the practice squad. It makes it tough for him to be evaluated obviously. You can, but it's not the same element of evaluation that you do with the games. He's a tough guy and I think he is determined. I hope he does dress at some point because I'm looking forward to seeing him play. He will get in there if he does dress."
