Since 1997, Eagles Youth Partnership and the Philadelphia Eagles Football Club have been transforming barren asphalt schoolyards into beautiful, imaginative safe havens for school children across the Greater Philadelphia area. It's a unique opportunity where the organization – Eagles players, coaches, staff, cheerleaders and SWOOP – dedicates its day to revitalizing a local playground with students and faculty. On Monday, EYP and the Eagles will visit Prince Hall Elementary School in North Philadelphia for the 18th annual Eagles Playground Build.
Students from Prince Hall School will join the team in painting colorful exterior and interior murals, inlaying mosaic tiles on benches and tables, constructing a large play structure and planting gardens. A turf field will also be installed to provide the children with an area to play field sports.
Prince Hall School, home to 560 students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, was selected as the 2014 Eagles Playground Build school by EYP and the School District of Philadelphia. The murals that will cover the outside of the school will be created by a team of artists led by David McShane from the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.
