The cameras and the reporters will be there to see it, to record it, to chatter about it non-stop. Eagles quarterback Michael Vick makes his first community-services appearance today at a high school in North Philadelphia to "share his story" with the incoming freshman class and to conitnue his commitment to live a better life and to help others do the same.
Oh, it's going to be all the rage, I'm sure. Cameras from all the local and national stations will be on hand to hear what Vick has to say, as if there are any secrets. Fact is, Vick has been very much on the record about his past mistakes and about his intentions to move forward as a better man. He is serious about making a difference in the community for the remainder of his life, with the visit today part of his next steps.
Vick should be judged on how he proceeds with his life after making such heinous mistakes in his past. He has been given a new opportunity in life and he intends to make good.
So expect a blitz of conversation about it today. Again. On the players' day off, Vick is working in the community and telling kids in a bad, bad neighborhood his story and hoping they listen and heed the warning: It can happen to you. It can happen to anybody.
**NEWS AND NOTES AND THIS AND THAT
**
- Carolina has great fans and the stadium is going to be loud on Sunday afternoon. Big emphasis this week has to be on the offensive line and making sure they get off the ball well and keep that excellent Panthers front seven off of Donovan McNabb and out of the backfield in the running game.
- McNabb has to make sure he and the coaches are on the same page in this game. The in-game adjustments are crucial. Ron Meeks is the new defensive coordinator in Carolina and no doubt the Panthers are going to have a lot of new wrinkles to show the Eagles.
- Where will Julius Peppers line up? He played both left end and right end in the preseason and is dangerous off the edge in both spots. Huge game for both Jason Peters and Shawn Andrews. And I guess I wouldn't be surprised to see Peppers standing up coming in the "A" gap just to cause some confusion for the Eagles.
- Impressive performance from Tony Curtis on Thursday catching the football. The Eagles knew he could block and they wanted him to be in situations where he had to catch the football. He did, grabbing four passes and scoring a touchdown. That's big, given the Eagles' question marks at the position throughout the summer.
