Tony Dungy: Lovie A Fit In Philly

Speaking with Geoff Mosher of Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia, Dungy said Smith's track record shows that he be a consistent and productive NFL head coach.

"Getting people to play well and be in contention all the time. It's not that easy," Dungy said. "I know Lovie can do that. If you're in it, you have a chance to win. Lovie is good. Wherever he lands, they will win.

"Lovie is going to do what he does - that's produce good football teams, be fundamentally sound, have teams that are there all the time, in competition to win it. If that's what the owner of the Eagles wants, he will do it for them."

The Eagles met with Smith Thursday to discuss the team's head coaching vacancy. During Smith's nine years in Chicago, the Bears were known for their opportunistic defense. Chicago finished among the top five in takeaways five times and in the top 10 seven times.

Smith served as Dungy's linebackers coach in Tampa Bay from 1996 through the 2000 season. The two would later meet again as opponents on the game's biggest stage. In Super Bowl XLI, Dungy's Colts topped Smith's Bears, 29-17.
