Jay Glazer from FOX Sports reported Wednesday morning that the Browns will bring in Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer for an interview. Albert Breer from NFL Network followed up with a report that after talking to a coach who said that Zimmer would be a "perfect fit" not only for the Browns, but the Eagles as well.
The 56-year-old Zimmer wrapped up his fifth season as the defensive coordinator of the Bengals. Cincinnati finished sixth in the NFL in yards allowed and eighth in points allowed this past season. Pro Bowl defensive tackle Geno Atkins set the franchise record for most sacks by an interior lineman this year with 12.5. Zimmer also did wonders this past season with undrafted linebacker Vontaze Burfict. Once considered a first-round talent, Burfict's bad senior year at Arizona State coupled with a poor showing in the pre-draft process led to him not being selected in the draft. However, Burfict started in 14 games and racked up over 100 tackles.
The Eagles are certainly familiar with Zimmer as he was previously the defensive coordinator in Atlanta and in Dallas before joining the Bengals.
While the Eagles have received permission to speak with Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, there is no word on the team's interest in Zimmer.
