On Monday morning, Connor Barwin was at Smith Playground for the project's ground-breaking ceremony

Through his Make The World Better Foundation, the linebacker donated 300,000 dollars to the revitalization project

Smith Playground is located at 24th and Jackson Streets in South Philadelphia

Councilman Kenyatta Johnson kicked off the ceremony

Barwin thanked all who made the project possible and is proud to be part of this restoration

Barwin joined Johnson, Mayor Michael Nutter and others for the ceremonial ground breaking

All are excited for this project to be officially underway

Barwin and Johnson helped ensure the new multipurpose field will be turf

Mayor Nutter spoke with members of the South Philly Hurricanes, a local youth football team that uses Smith Playground

There are a lot of big plans for Smith Playground

Mayor Nutter also tossed the football around for a few minutes following the ceremony

Barwin, on the other hand, spent time with the kids at the park

The linebacker had a great time and is excited for Smith Playground to become an even more important part of the South Philadelphia community
