2025 Offseason Position Group Preview: Quarterback

Jalen Hurts

The Eagles will be led by Super Bowl LIX MVP Jalen Hurts as he enters his sixth year in the league with a resume that now features two Super Bowl appearances, two NFC Championships, two Pro Bowl selections, and now a Super Bowl Championship.

Hurts finished the regular season with career highs in completion percentage (68.7 percent) and passer rating (103.7), while leading all quarterbacks with 14 rushing touchdowns in 2024.

The quarterback room was strong for Philadelphia in 2024, as Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee shined when called upon. Pickett, who was traded from Pittsburgh last offseason, came in when Hurts went down with a concussion in Week 16, throwing for 143 yards and a touchdown in the tight loss to Washington. He won his first start as an Eagle in Week 17, throwing for 143 yards and another touchdown on 10-of-15 passing (119.6 QB rating) in the NFC East title-clinching win.

Third-stringer Tanner McKee threw three touchdown passes in his first seven career pass attempts against the Cowboys and Giants. He started his first career game in Week 18, throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Both Pickett and McKee are under contract for 2025 and made positive strides in their young development when given the opportunity.

The Eagles don't have any quarterbacks currently on the roster that will hit free agency.

Bird Talk

Head Coach Nick Sirianni on what makes Jalen Hurts stand out:

"Just all that he can do. He's a great passer and reads the defense great. And then he has this ability that when something breaks down to make big plays happen that way as well.

"And he just knows how to win. His work ethic, all the different things, so many different things there. He's won so many different places he's been and won big. I would say that, again, the ability to be a great passer and great at reading the defense, and then also his ability to create and extend."

Notable Stat

Following Week 3, Hurts threw just one interception in the regular season and two total including the postseason. Since the bye in Week 5, he logged 36 total touchdowns against four giveaways (including playoffs). During that stretch, he completed 69.7 percent (223-of-320) of his passes for 2,699 yards and 19 touchdowns to just two interceptions.

Under the Microscope

Former Passing Game Coordinator/Associate Head Coach Kevin Patullo has now taken over as offensive coordinator, marking the fifth coordinator in six years for Hurts. But the Eagles proved it doesn't matter how it may look as long as they are ahead when the clock hits zero. Having the dual-threat ability of Hurts next to the talent of Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert will continue to give opposing defenses problems across the league. Philadelphia's quarterback room will remain strong in 2025, with all three quarterbacks continuing to elevate their game and prove themselves. – Written by Liam Wichser
