Babin's Sack Rampage Continues

Defensive end Jason Babin became the first Eagle and only the 10th player in NFL history to post 3.0 sacks in back-to-back games in Sunday's 45-19 win over the New York Jets.

With 6.0 sacks in the past two games, Babin now has a career-high 18.0 which leads the entire NFL. In fact, Babin currently ranks third in Eagles history tying Reggie White, who posted that same total twice - in 1986 and 1988. White owns the franchise record with 21.0 set back in 1987 and Clyde Simmons is second with 19.0 in 1992. No matter where Babin finishes, he doesn't believe that he compares to those two Eagles legends.

"I feel like it wouldn't matter if I got close or not, those guys are a whole 'nother level than myself," Babin said. "All I want to do is do whatever I can do to help this team win, if it's getting sacks then I'll do it."

Each of Babin's three sacks came on drives after the Eagles scored a touchdown. Two of them came on third down to get the defense off the field. Showing the Jets offense a different look, two of Babin's sacks came as a stand-up rusher.

"(Defensive coordinator) Juan (Castillo) just wanted to give them some different looks and mix it up," Babin said. "That way, when sometimes we want to rush four, what are they going to do? We like it. It's a good change up. It's a good way to keep things fresh."

Note Babin's use of the word "we." He doesn't take credit for the sacks explaining that it takes the entire team - offense included - to put him in position to get to the quarterback.

"You have the offense putting up points, the rest of the D-line rushing their butt off. You've got the secondary and the linebackers locking people down," Babin said. "It's a team thing."

Babin's performance in the last two weeks has helped energize a defense that has only allowed 29 points in the two wins. No matter what, Babin's 2011 campaign is going to go in the Eagles record books as one of the most prolific for a pass rusher in franchise history.
