Eagles president Joe Banner stopped by the set of Eagles Live! with Dave Spadaro after Michael Vick was introduced as the newest member of the team.
Banner said that the discussions regarding Vick began with a conversation between him and head coach Andy Reid on August 6. By the following Monday, the Eagles were in touch with Vick's agent Joel Segal. The deal was finished on Thursday night.
It's a one-year deal with no guaranteed money, according to Banner. The team holds an option for a second year with just a minimal guaranteed salary.
Banner said that Reid has some "exciting" and "dramatic" ideas for the playcalling involving Vick. The key for the Eagles was to not be afraid to make the deal.
"You can't be afraid of taking risks," Banner said. "Clearly there's risk in this. We thought about it carefully. We researched it carefully. We came to make an informed decision. The upside on the field is potentially huge. We think he is one of the most premier players at one of the most important positions on the field."
