Former Eagles middle linebacker Bill Bergey, who is a member of the team's Hall of Fame, was named to the Pro Football Researchers Association's Hall of Very Good on Tuesday.
Since 2003, the Hall of Very Good has honored "outstanding players and coaches who are not in the (Pro Football) Hall of Fame," according to the PFRA's press release. There are a number of players who have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after joining the Hall of Very Good.
Bergey was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 1988. After coming to Philadelphia in 1974 in exchange for two first-round picks and a second-round selection, Bergey recorded nearly 1,200 tackles in seven seasons as an Eagle. He was a pivotal member of the team's 1980 NFC title team and he earned three team MVP awards and four Pro Bowl selections during his tenure in Philly.
In 2011, Bergey was inducted into the Philly Sports Hall of Fame.
Another member of this year's nine-player class for the Hall of Very Good is former Frankford Yellowjacket Swede Youngstrom.
Other Eagles in the Hall of Very Good include wide receivers Harold Carmichael and Harold Jackson, defensive end Claude Humphrey, tight end Pete Retzlaff, linebacker Maxie Baughan, offensive tackle Al Wistert and running back Timmy Brown.
