Who's the Mann?
Yes, punter Braden Mann is after winning NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance in Sunday's win over the Ravens.
Mann averaged 51.2 yards per punt on six attempts, with an average net of 48.5 yards. More importantly, Mann helped put the Ravens' offense in precarious situations with five of his six punts going inside the 20-yard line, and two of them inside the 5-yard line.
Those two possessions that started inside the 5-yard line were critical to the Eagles' success. The Eagles' defense forced a punt both times and the offense then capitalized on the field position with touchdowns.
"It was outstanding," Special Teams Coordinator Michael Clay said on Tuesday. "Braden did an unbelievable job. I know everyone has kind of seen, five of six punts inside the 20. You saw the one that got down at the 1 with Sydney (Brown), then the one down at the (5) by Kelee (Ringo). He did an unbelievable job."
This is Mann's second career Player of the Week award. He took home AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors in Week 2 of the 2022 season as a member of the New York Jets.
"In one of those games that turned into a field position game, it kind of sparked a little bit with that defense with the three-and-out right there. Then the punt, then the offense scored on a short field. It was fantastic out of Braden to kind of give a little spark off the special teams," Clay said.
Overall, this is the Eagles' sixth individual Player of the Week honor in 2024. Running back Saquon Barkley has captured a single-season franchise-record four Player of the Week selections with linebacker Zack Baun capturing one for the defense. Jake Elliott was the last Eagle to win Special Teams Player of the Week for the Eagles in Week 12 of last season.
In 2023, Mann's first season as an Eagle, he set franchise single-season records with 49.8 yards per punt and 43.9 net yards per punt.
For the year, Mann is second in the NFC and fourth in the NFL with a 50.9-yard gross punting average. He's third in the NFC with a 43.8 net average.
"Braden's been doing a really good job," Clay said. "You look at everything, you're like, 'He's just going to have a quiet year.' But he's been doing an amazing job for us when it comes to putting the ball in a place where we can cover, putting the ball where we can down the ball, and helping the team in any way we can."
