Live Updates_Q4.2

The Eagles are headed to Super Bowl LIX after a 55-23 route of the Commanders.

Their 55 points set an NFC Championship game record as Jalen Hurts scored three rushing touchdowns and threw for one en route to the victory.

Here's how it happened:

First Quarter

  • Washington opened with the ball to start to game, picking up multiple fourth-down conversions in Eagles territory before settling for a 34-yard field goal from Zane Gonzalez. The opening drafted went for 18 plays, 54 yards, and took up 7:03 of game time. (Commanders 3 – Eagles 0)
  • TOUCHDOWN! Saquon Barkley does it again! On the very first offensive play for the Eagles, Barkley received the pitch from Jalen Hurts and went down the sideline, breaking multiple tackles before cutting into the middle and taking it 60 yards for a touchdown. (Eagles 7 – Commanders 3)
  • "It was a good tone setter. We knew they we're going to sell out to stop the run, we kind of knew that. And then, he breaks two or three tackles to start, we get a great block from A.J. (Brown) to get around the edge. And then, great block by Dallas (Goedert) to set it off," Head Coach Nick Sirianni said. "Special performance, special player, special job by the entire group."
  • FUMBLE! Zack Baun came in a punched the ball out of Dyami Brown's hands and Reed Blankenship fell on top of it before it went out of bounds to give the Eagles the ball at the Washington 48-yard line with 5:45 remaining in the quarter.
  • TOUCHDOWN! A few plays after Hurts found DeVonta Smith for a gain of 20 yards, Barkley helped Philadelphia finish off of the turnover with a 4-yard run to extend the first quarter lead. Barkley became the first player in NFL history to have two rushing touchdowns in three different games against the same team in a season. (Eagles 14 – Commanders 3)
  • "Well, I've told you guys this from this instance throughout the year. A lot of these things come down to how you finish. And I think being able to lean on him when we're trying to bring things home, I think that's a huge impact he's made for us. And obviously, when he does it early, it doesn't really matter who gets the party started, just for us to gain some momentum as an offense and gain a rhythm, I'd say. Rhythm is the word, gain our rhythm as an offense and keep going," Hurts said.
  • SACK! Oren Burks brought down Jayden Daniels outside of the pocket for a loss of six yards with 1:42 remaining.

Second Quarter

  • Washington opened up the second quarter with a 46-yard field goal from Gonzalez to make it a one-score game again. (Eagles 14 – Washington 6)
  • The Eagles pulled our the Brotherly Shove on a 3rd-and-1 from the Washington 32 with 11:02 to go in the half as they looked to find another score. Hurts and company pushed through for a one-yard gain to pick up the first down. A few plays later, Hurts was sacked on 3rd-and-6 for a loss of nine yards. Jake Elliott missed a 54-yard field goal attempt to the right to end the drive.
  • The Commanders took advantage of the field position, getting down the field before Daniels hit Terry McLaurin for a 36-yard catch and run. Washington went for two but failed, as Austin Ekeler was stopped short of the end zone by Baun and Quinyon Mitchell. (Eagles 14 – Commanders 12)
  • On 4th-and-5 from the Washington 45, the Eagles went for it and converted as Hurts hit A.J. Brown with a beautiful pass down the sideline for a gain of 31 yards with two minutes remaining in the half.
  • TOUCHDOWN! The Brotherly Shove struck again as Hurts shoved his way into the end zone for an Eagles touchdown. After an Unnecessary Roughness penalty on Marshon Lattimore, the Eagles went for two but could not convert. (Eagles 20 – Commanders 12).
  • FUMBLE! Will Shipley jarred the ball out of Jeremy McNichols hands on the kickoff return and Kenneth Gainwell recovered it at the Washington 24 with 1:36 to go in the half.
  • "Special teams came up huge again. It's all phases, it's all phases," Baun said.
  • TOUCHDOWN! Hurts hit Brown in the corner of the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown pass. (Eagles 27 – Commanders 12)
  • "We've been saying it all year, no matter how it looks – we're just trying to get the win," Brown said.
  • The Commanders finished the half with a 42-yard field goal to make it a 12-point game before the half. (Eagles 27 – Commanders 15)

Third Quarter

  • Cam Jurgens came out at center to open the second half and Tyler Steen stayed at guard as Landon Dickerson is questionable to return with a knee injury. Kenneth Gainwell was ruled out after being evaluated for a concussion.
  • "That was huge. Cam's a warrior for that. Because I know Cam, he was definitely battling through that injury for a while. Having to step in when someone has an injury, he was already nowhere 100 percent, so, that's huge. Just having that toughness to go out there and finish the game," Steen said.
  • SACK! Jordan Davis flew into the backfield and brought down Daniels for a loss of 12 yards to force a 3rd-and-20, which the Eagles would get a stop on to force a punt.
  • TOUCHDOWN! Hurts ran on a quarterback draw to the left corner of the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown run to open the scoring in the second half. (Eagles 34 – Commanders 15)
  • "Comes down to our approach, and everyone being on the same page and playing with good rhythm, and ultimately finding a way to win. I think the beautiful thing about this sport, about this team, and for me, from my vantage point, [is] how we've been able to evolve over the years since I've been here, finding ways to win in multiple ways," Hurts said.
  • Washington came back with a score of its own after Daniels scrambled and ran in for a 10-yard touchdown with 5:01 remaining in the quarter. The Commanders went for two and converted, as Daniels found Olamide Zaccheaus in the corner of the end zone. (Eagles 34 – Commanders 23)
  • FUMBLE! Burks knocked the ball out of Austin Ekeler's hands as he tried to run and Baun fell on top of it to give the Eagles the ball at the Philadelphia 49 before the quarter came to a close.

Fourth Quarter

  • TOUCHDOWN! After several Washington penalties, the Brotherly Shove – in all its glory – struck again as Hurts scored his fourth touchdown of the day (three rushing, one passing). (Eagles 41 – Commanders 23)
  • SACK! Nolan Smith wrapped up Daniels for a loss of nine yards on 4th-and-11 to give the ball back to the Eagles. The sack by Smith set the franchise-record for most sacks by a player in a postseason (4).
  • TOUCHDOWN! Barkley notched his third touchdown of the game on a 4-yard run to extend the lead with 7:58 remaining. (Eagles 48 – Commanders 23)
  • INTERCEPTION! Quinyon Mitchell jumped up and pick off Daniels' pass in the end zone to give the ball back to the Eagles with 4:51 remaining in the game.
  • Will Shipley continued his big game with a career-high 57-yard run to get the Eagles to the Washington seven.
  • TOUCHDOWN! Shipley finished it off punched in his first career touchdown on a 2-yard run to set the NFC Championship game record for most points scored by a team in the game. (Eagles 55 – Commanders 23)
