The Eagles had been atop or near the top of the list for most sacks in the NFL in the first nine weeks of the 2011 season.
However, Monday night's sackless performance vs. Jay Cutler and the Bears left the Eagles tied for ninth in the league with 22 sacks. That doesn't sit well with Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Babin.
"We're still salty about it. Anytime we don't feel like we get as much pressure as we should on the quarterback, I mean I don't know if we knocked him down many times, it's frustrating to us because that's our job. That's what everybody really evaluates us for," Babin said. "When it doesn't get done, guess what, it doesn't matter why it didn't get done, it's our fault."
The Bears, who boast an offensive line that was maligned early in the season, utilized a lot of max protection schemes to slow down the Eagles' vaunted pass rush.
"That shows we're one of the best pass rushing defenses in the entire league," defensive end Trent Cole said. "When a team has to put eight men in the box, eight men in the box, to stop us, that's respect. That gives us motivation to keep doing what we're doing."
But the problem is the Bears converted 7-of-14 third down conversions and, more importantly, won the game 30-24. The Eagles have not blitzed frequently this season. On third downs when the opposing team passed, the Eagles have blitzed 22 percent of the time in 2011. Last year, the Eagles blitzed 52 percent of the time in the same situation.
If the Cardinals, who showed a similar max protect scheme using as many as nine people in the box against St. Louis last week, copy Chicago's game plan, will the Eagles blitz more?
"I'm sure we can bring some more guys or disguise some things. I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen again to us," Babin said. "We're not going to get caught like that."
