DE Derrick Morgan, Georgia Tech | |||||
Pos. Rank: 1 | Grade: 1st Round | Height: 6-3 | Weight: 266 | 40: 4.77 | Year: 3-Jr. |
The Good: Explosive college defensive end who creates a lot of problems for opponents. Fires off the snap, plays with terrific knee bend, and consistently gets leverage on opponents. Easily and effortlessly changes direction without losing any momentum, fast off the edge, and has a closing burst bearing down on plays. Slides off blocks, pursues the action with speed and is tremendously athletic. Constantly doubled by opponents and keeps his feet driving up the field. Fluid if asked to twist or stunt and rarely off his feet. Displays ability dropping off the line and playing in space.
The Bad: At times a bit late to react. More of a first move lineman and struggles taking on blocks.
The Verdict: Morgan is a disruptive pass rusher who creates problems for quarterbacks with the ability to quickly get upfield. A disruptive force, he has potential both as a conventional defensive end or outside linebacker in a 3-4 alignment. Morgan possesses a great amount of upside, which should be met as he improves his strength and physically matures.
