What We Know: Looking at the numbers, this group has been solid through the first three games. Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley are a formidable run-stopping tandem. Against Carolina and Kansas City, they helped neutralize the likes of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, as well as Larry Johnson. The Saints, however, averaged 4.6 yards per carry while grounding out 133 yards. Collectively, the group is getting penetration and making plays behind the line of scrimmage. Philadelphia ranks ninth in the league in yards allowed per carry (3.6) and 15th in rushing yards allowed per game (106.0).
What Needs To Be Resolved: The immediate challenges ahead are the ground attacks of Tampa Bay, Oakland, Washington, the Giants and Dallas. The Redskins, Giants and Cowboys had success running against Philadelphia last season. With Jeremiah Trotter back in the mix, how will his presence impact the run defense? This group must also continue to generate an inside pass rush.
