With extra ammunition thanks to their trade-down on the draft's opening night, the Eagles reversed course and traded up Friday night to select Vanderbilt wide receiver Jordan Matthews. To move up to No. 42 overall, the Eagles sent the Tennessee Titans their second-round pick (No. 54) and fourth-round pick (No. 122).
Matthews, 6-foot-3, 212 pounds, is the all-time SEC leader in career receptions (262) and receiving yards (3,759). A team captain at Vanderbilt, Matthews played all 52 games of his career.
At wide receiver, Matthews joins Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper, among others, on the Eagles roster. Head coach Chip Kelly said following the pick that the Eagles will likely start Matthews out as an inside receiver to complement Maclin and Cooper.
