The Eagles made the first roster move of the Nick Sirianni era on Tuesday and it involved a former Indianapolis Colt when they claimed cornerback Shakial Taylor off waivers from the New York Giants. Taylor did not play in 2020 after opting-out due to COVID-19 concerns.
A rookie free agent out of Kansas in 2019, the 6-0, 181-pound Taylor signed with the Indianapolis Colts. He didn't initially make the team out of Training Camp due to injury, but rejoined the team in Week 5 and played in five games as a rookie. New Eagles Defensive Coordinator Jonathan Gannon was Taylor's defensive backs coach in Indianapolis. In those five games, he made seven tackles and one pass defensed.
Taylor transferred to Kansas after playing at Mesa Community College. In 21 career games with the Jayhawks, Taylor posted 55 tackles, three interceptions, eight passes defensed, and a touchdown.
