The Eagles claimed linebacker Steven Daniels off waivers from the Washington Redskins on Wednesday. A seventh-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Boston College, Daniels landed on Injured Reserve as a rookie with a torn labrum. He was released by the Redskins on Tuesday.

Daniels was a three-year starter at middle linebacker for Boston College, recording 267 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, and three interceptions. A first-team All-ACC selection as a senior, columnist Tommy Lawlor called Daniels "the most physical player in the draft."

He ran a 4.86 in the 40-yard dash at the Combine, which hurt his draft stock. NFL.com's Lance Zierlein wrote that Daniels' "motor and strength make up for some of his deficiencies," but that the Cincinnati native will be a good fit for teams in need of a "thumper to add some depth."
