Eagles mourn the passing of Lee Bouggess

The Eagles are saddened to learn of the passing of former running back Lee Bouggess, 76, who passed away peacefully at Allegria at the Fountains in Atco, NJ on July 4, 2024.

Born in Louisville, KY on January 18, 1948, Lee lived in Cherry Hill and Sicklerville, NJ with his beloved wife Barbara of almost 40 years. He graduated from Shawnee High School (1966) and the University of Louisville in Kentucky (1970), where he was inducted into the UL Athletic Hall of Fame. He graduated with a degree in recreation and was a third-round selection by the Eagles in the 1970 NFL Draft (59th player drafted overall).

Bouggess played in 32 games for the Eagles from 1970-73 and rushed for 697 yards and 2 touchdowns and finished his football career in the World Football League with the New York Stars.

He worked in various construction jobs, helped countless children through mentorships working extensively with the Camden Police Athletic League, and worked as Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation in Gloucester County, where he later retired.

Survivors include his two children, Tonya Eady and Darin Bouggess, and his sister, Jamesella (Bouggess) Jackson, and grandchildren, Marshall Rountree. Madison Bouggess, Zachary Bouggess, and Lee Bouggess, along with three great-grandchildren.

Lee was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (Buchanan) Bouggess, siblings Jerry, Terry, and Billy, along with his parents Silas Albert and Pauline Alice (Davis) Bouggess.
