The Eagles heard the rumor. They decided to shoot it down and put it to rest. Andy Reid is not being replaced as head coach by current ESPN Monday Night Football analyst and former Raiders and Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden. The organization released the following statement Monday morning. Here is it in its entirety:
"Early this morning we have received several inquiries regarding the rumors regarding Andy Reid and Jon Gruden. This was simply a rumor and there is no basis to it at all. It is simply not true."
In Gruden's final season in Tampa Bay in 2008, it was the Buccaneers' four-game losing streak to end the season that allowed the Eagles to slip into the final playoff spot and make a run to the NFC Championship game.
