Eagles Sign DT Williams

Dave Spadaro announced on Training Camp Live! that the Eagles have signed defensive tackle Willie Williams. The Eagles are thin at defensive tackle with Trevor Laws on the Physically Unable To Perform list with a hamstring injury. Currently, only four defensive tackle are participating in practice. The 6-4, 305-pound Williams was released by the Rams when they signed former Eagle Hollis Thomas on Wednesday.

More on Williams: He was signed to the Rams practice squad on October 13th and remained there for the duration of the 2008 season. A two-year letterman at Louisville, Williams played in 23 games (nine starts) and notched 41 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He transferred to Louisville in 2006 after a one-year stint at Georgia Military College, where he registered 35 tackles and three sacks. Williams also played one year at Hutchinson Community College in 2004.

Update: It turns out that the Eagles did not work out Williams this morning on an adjacent practice field at Lehigh University. The player that the Eagles worked out, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, was rookie free agent Jesse Bowman from Mississippi State.
