The Eagles signed linebacker Asantay Brown on Sunday. The move comes after linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill suffered what head coach Doug Pederson deemed a "lower-body" injury during Saturday's practice. To make room on the roster, the Eagles waived cornerback Alex Brown.
Brown is a 6-0, 215-pound linebacker who was originally signed by the Eagles as a rookie free agent out of Western Michigan in 2018. The Eagles waived Brown following last year's preseason. He was signed to the practice squad but released just two days later. He returned on September 19 and spent the remainder of the season on the practice squad. Following the year, Brown was brought back on a reserve/futures contract, but the Eagles waived him in early May.
The 24-year-old Brown led Western Michigan with 98 tackles in 2017 as a senior, earning third-team All-MAC honors. He played linebacker, safety, and cornerback during his college career. Brown recorded 22 tackles in a game against Toledo, the most of any player in the conference that season.
The Eagles now have nine linebackers on the active roster.
