The Eagles were back in action on Sunday, picking up a big 37-17 victory over the Bengals to move to 5-2 on the season.
The Bengals fell to 3-5 on the season, still searching for their first win at home on the year.
The Eagles put together 397 yards of total offense and the defense forced an interception and a fumble in the win.
"It was exciting. It's hard to win in this league. Doesn't matter if you win by what we won by today, you win by one, win by two, you're going to be excited. We put everything we have into this every single week," Head Coach Nick Sirianni said. "It really takes truly mentally tough people to be involved in this game where you pour every ounce of what you have into each week, and then you win or you lose, and you do it again."
First Quarter
- The Bengals received the ball first, putting together a methodical drive down the field that lasted more than half of the first quarter. Joe Burrow completed his first eight passes in a row to begin the game.
- The Bengals opened up the scoring on their first drive as Burrow found Ja'Marr Chase in the end zone for a 2-yard catch. The drive went for 17 plays for 70 yards in 10:04 of game time. (Bengals 7 – Eagles 0)
- The Eagles got into Bengals' territory on their first drive with Hurts having a few nice rushes for 13 yards.
Second Quarter
- FIELD GOAL! Jake Elliott knocked through a 39-yard field goal to put the Eagles on the board with 14:10 on the clock in the new quarter. Hurts tried to find A.J. Brown in the end zone on 3rd-and-15 but was unsuccessful as the ball went out of bounds. (Bengals 7 – Eagles 3)
- Sack! Nolan Smith and Milton Williams got in the backfield to put the pressure on Burrow and come down with a sack to push the Bengals back 12 yards to the Bengals' 46. Smith and Williams split the sack together.
- After Cooper DeJean nearly got his first career interception, Burrow scrambled out on the following play, hitting Mike Gesicki for a gain of 24 yards on 3rd-and-22.
- The Eagles' defense was able to hold the Bengals to a 27-yard field goal from Evan McPherson after Darius Slay broke up a touchdown pass intended for Jermaine Burton. (Bengals 10 – Eagles 3)
- "I think today was a great team win, a great showing as a team. When you play like that on defense and you're able to stop an offense capable of playing at a high level and with the star players that they have, that's a great job," Hurts said.
- The Eagles converted on a 4th-and-1 Brotherly Shove from their own 39-yard line to keep their driving going with 8:49 remaining in the quarter. Lane Johnson went down with an injury and Jack Driscoll came in for him with 7:40 remaining. Johnson would come back in after sitting out for one play.
- With 5:08 remaining in the half, McPherson missed a 54-yard field goal try to give the ball back to the Eagles at their own 36-yard line. The kick went wide left, keeping it a one-possession game.
- TOUCHDOWN! After review, Hurts broke the plane on a 3rd-and-goal Brotherly Shove. The call originally ruled Hurts was short, but on the replay, it showed his second effort push was enough, and the ball broke the plane of the goal line. The touchdown for Hurts put him ahead of Wilbert Montgomery for second all-time in rushing touchdowns in Eagles history (46). (Eagles 10 – Bengals 10)
Third Quarter
- Just under two minutes into the start of the second half, Hurts found Grant Calcaterra for a 28-yard gain to set the Eagles up at the Bengals' 22.
- Jack Stoll was injured after catching a pass for 6 yards. He was seen on the sideline after and returned a short time later.
- TOUCHDOWN! Hurts got his second rushing touchdown of the day after getting the edge on a read option for a 7-yard run. The Eagles came out hot to start the second half, taking their first lead of the day. (Eagles 17 – Bengals 10)
- Isaiah Rodgers came in for Slay on defense after he was seen injured during a play with 8:10 remaining. Slay was listed as questionable to return with a groin injury and did not play the rest of the game.
- "I just stay ready. I stay warmed up on the sidelines. You just never know when your time is going to come, so I try to make the most of my opportunities and I don't try to wait for my moments to come. I try to go chase them," Rodgers said.
- The Bengals found the end zone for the first time since the first quarter after Chase Brown ran it in for a 4-yard touchdown to help tie the game up. Brown has scored in four of his last five games. (Eagles 17 – Bengals 17)
- TOUCHDOWN! Hurts threw a DEEP ball downfield to DeVonta Smith in one-on-one coverage. Smith rose up over safety Jordan Battle to make a great catch to give the Eagles the lead back on a highly explosive play that went for 45 yards. (Eagles 24 – Bengals 17)
- "We knew we were going to get the one-on-one coverage. Jalen trusts me to go up there if it's one-on-one to win a 50/50 ball," Smith said.
- "He made some huge plays down the stretch of the game, down the field, and then on third downs, he showed up big. And so I think that was a great showing for him, and great showing for offense and our team," Hurts said.
- On 4th-and-1 from their own 39, the Bengals went for it and were stopped as a throw to Chase was blown up by the rookie DeJean for a loss of 2 yards. The Eagles would get the ball back at the Bengals' 37-yard line.
- "We were matched up man-to-man, I matched up with 1 (Ja'Marr Chase), as soon as he went in motion and came back and did some dancing around in the backfield, I kind of had a feeling that they were going to try and go to him on that play," DeJean said. "At the end of the day, it's about me doing my job, making that tackle, and stopping them."
Fourth Quarter
- FIELD GOAL! Elliott knocked in a 49-yard field goal to extend the lead with 13:34 remaining in the game. (Eagles 27 – Bengals 17)
- INTERCEPTION! Rodgers contested a deep pass intended for Chase, batting the ball up in the air, allowing for C.J. Gardner-Johnson to intercept it and go out of bounds at the Eagles' 15.
- "Isaiah Rodgers, playing great man technique and trusting me like I always tell me corners, 'I got you over the top. I'm always over there regardless,'" Gardner-Johnson said. "That's what the team expects from me, even if the ball is overthrown, tipped, just get there so I can make a play on the ball and give my team a chance to win the game."
- TOUCHDOWN! Hurts with his third rushing touchdown of the day as the Brotherly Shove struck again. Barkley had a number of big runs to get the Eagles in position to score, including a 17-yard carry to the 1-yard line to set up the Brotherly Shove. (Eagles 34 – Bengals 17)
- FUMBLE! Zack Baun punched it out of Gesicki's hands and Nakobe Dean recovered the ball at the Bengals' 33-yard line with 4:31 to play in the game.
- FIELD GOAL! Elliott knocked in another one, this time from 47 yards to extend the lead to 20. (Eagles 37 – Bengals 17)
