LANDOVER, MD – The Eagles fell to Washington 36-33 in a thriller from Northwest Stadium.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts went down with a concussion early in the game, leaving Kenny Pickett to come in. Washington scored with six seconds remaining to take the lead and win the game.

"I'm focused on the outcome, you know, it's hard to look at that right now, just sitting here, just frustrated. Really wanted to get that one for our team, So, we have to be able to learn from it," Pickett said after the game. "Any reps you get are valuable, you know, practice, game, whatever it is, because you don't get many of them being in the two (backup quarterback). So. I just want to take advantage of everything I can and hopefully these guys they can rely on me if I have to go in there again."

Here's how it happened:

First Quarter

  • After Braden Mann's opening kick was short of the landing zone, Washington took over at their own 40. On 4th-and-1 from their own 49, the Eagles' defense made a big-time stop to open the game when Josh Sweat brought down Brian Robinson Jr. to give the offense the ball.
  • TOUCHDOWN! Saquon Barkley punched in his career-high 12th rushing touchdown of the season on a 2-yard run that would open up the scoring. Barkley had 4 carries for 37 yards on the drive, averaging 9.3 yards per carry. (Eagles 7 – Commanders 0)
  • FUMBLE! After a 47-yard kick off return from Luke McCaffrey, Robinson Jr. fumbled on the first play of the drive as Jalen Carter jarred the ball loose and Nolan Smith recovered it to give the Eagles the ball at the Philadelphia 43.
  • After taking a hit on a 13-yard run, Hurts had to come out of the game with an injury and Kenny Pickett would come in at the 9:50 mark as the Eagles were driving. He would be evaluated for a concussion and later ruled OUT.
  • TOUCHDOWN! Pickett found A.J. Brown for a 4-yard touchdown pass to extend the Eagles' lead with 7:08 remaining in the quarter. (Eagles 14 – Commanders 0)
  • "I'm talking to all the quarterbacks, honestly, just trying to get an understanding of how they may see it. And the reason is, I usually like to sit by Kenny and talk to Kenny about the game. So when we came in the game, we're just trying to get on the same page. And then we're in practice, we continue to talk, just not like I'm just talking to one all the time, you know, I try to talk to all my quarterbacks," Brown said about connecting with Pickett once he came in.
  • Pickett threw an interception at the Philadelphia 25 on a pass intended for Brown. Frankie Luvu made the interception to give Washington the ball back.
  • Washington got on the board after a 6-yard pass from Jayden Daniels to Jamison Crowder in the back of the end zone. (Eagles 14 – Washington 7)
  • TOUCHDOWN! Barkley does it again! The historic season continued for Barkley as he pulled out a 68-yard run for a touchdown to make it a two-score game again. The run helped set the Eagles' single-season rushing yards record as a team. (Eagles 21 – Commanders 7)
  • "Everything moves through them. I also want to give a shoutout to the tight ends, to wide receivers, they made big blocks. You see A.J. coming through, getting to the safety. I believe it was C.J. (Uzomah) on that one pulling through, and I just tried to stay patient and read his block. And was able to get vertical and hit a big one," Barkley said about his 68-yard touchdown run. "But all season long, we've been really good at it, and we're gonna continue to be good at it, and we're gonna continue to lean on it when we need to. And we've got to go back to drawing boards and see what we can do better."

Second Quarter

  • FUMBLE! Cooper DeJean ripped the ball out of Robinson's hands and recovered the fumble, giving the Eagles the ball back at their own 10. On the first play of the drive, Pickett hit Brown for a gain of 45 yards to move to the Washington 45. The catch put Brown over 1,000 receiving yards on the year. Brown now has three consecutive seasons with 1,000+ receiving yards, tying for the longest streak in franchise history (Mike Quick, 1983-85).
  • "Just us attacking the ball when we had the chance. Guys are held up in a pile trying to take a shot at the ball, get it out, just punching the ball in our tackles. I thought we did a good job of taking the ball away today," DeJean said.
  • Nakobe Dean went down after a run from Robinson and went into the medical tent with 9:20 remaining in the half. Oren Burks would come in for him at linebacker. Dean would return on the next drive. Josh Sweat went down with an ankle injury and would return later on. Jordan Davis was injured with 4:08 remaining in the half. He would later return in the second half.
  • Daniels found Terry McLaurin for a 32-yard touchdown in the front left corner of the end zone to bring the lead back down to one score. (Eagles 21 – Commanders 14)
  • INTERCEPTION! C.J. Gardner-Johnson picked off Daniels' pass that was intended for McCaffrey and returned it to the Washington 49 with 1:52 remaining. It was the 4th interception of the year for the safety.

Third Quarter

  • FIELD GOAL! The Eagles got the ball to open the half and with the help of two pass interference calls on passes intended for Brown got to the Washington 11. The Eagles couldn't punch it in and Elliott knocked it in from 24 yards to make it a 10 point game. (Eagles 24 – Commanders 14)
  • FUMBLE! Zack Baun punched it out of Dyami Brown's hands after the catch and Nolan Smith recovered his second fumble of the game at the Washington 43 with 11:18 left in the quarter.
  • FIELD GOAL! Elliott hit a 40-yard field goal to extend the lead to 13 with 3:11 remaining in the quarter. (Eagles 27 – Commanders 14)

Fourth Quarter

  • The Commanders found the end zone after Daniels found Olamide Zaccheaus for a 4-yard touchdown pass with 13:33 remaining. (Eagles 27 – Commanders 21)
  • Daniels found Zaccheaus for a 49-yard touchdown to help give Washington their first lead of the game with 9:06 remaining. (Commanders 28 – Eagles 27)
  • Trailing with 7:44 remaining, Pickett hit DeVonta Smith on 4th-and-2 for 4-yard gain to keep the offense on the field. A few plays later, Pickett found Brown on 4th-and-7 for 15 yards to get to the Washington 35.
  • FIELD GOAL! Elliott knocked in his first 50+ yard field goal of the season at the perfect moment, giving the Eagles the lead back with 3:48 to play. (Eagles 30 – Commanders 28)
  • INTERCEPTION! Darius "Big Play" Slay broke up Daniels pass intended for McCaffrey and Reed Blankenship came up with the interception to give the Eagles the ball at the Washington 27 with 2:51 remaining.
  • "Just trusting myself and trusting what I know, and I'm playing ball. Without my teammates, I wouldn't be able to do a lot of things. The guys were rushing great, we were just covering good, and it's a team effort. Without those guys, I wouldn't be too much, so I wouldn't be 'Big Play' without those boys," Slay said.
  • FIELD GOAL! Elliott hit a 40-yard field goal into the two-minute warning to extend the lead to five. (Eagles 33 – Commanders 28)
  • Daniels found Crowder for a 9-yard touchdown to give Washington the leader with 6 seconds left. The Commanders went for the two-point conversion and got it with Jeremy McNichols. (Commanders 36 – Eagles 33)
